Windows 10

I cannot for the life of me think of what exactly I would need to protect myself from by setting a system like that up. I have had CC info get out before, in each case asides from one I did not lose any money. Just the annoyance of cancelling and ordering a new card while disputing charges. I did have on CC company that told me that they would only go back 4 hours on disputes. Since I was asleep when they used the number in another country I just have happened to have slept for longer than 4 hours. I paid the 63$ charge and canceled the credit card. I will not do business with them again.

I do not care if the internet knows I like tractors, 4wd trucks, older diesel trucks, gory video games or even that I am boycotting Oreos and a number of other Nabisco products. If I am still eating them it is knock off store brand versions that are still made cheaper in the US of A

I honestly do not care if Microsoft is reading my emails. Have fun with the long emails about Mom's corrective surgery for a botched hysterectomy or Dad's third surgery for hammer-toe...

If knowing any of the above makes it easier for them to serve me ads for things that interest me then more power to them. Maybe I would notice if I turned the ad-blocker off :D

I'm with you budy. I don't care if $soft know that I use what kind of toothpaste i buy or that google might think I'm a nudist and can't market market my address to clothing companies. That's their problem not mine.

You can live on nothing but Soylent, nothing but Baileys, I wouldn't try that. :D

False, there is no life without BACON

Yes, I know you can flavor your Soylent in any of number of ways, but it is not a crispy, crunchy slice of bacon :)

Here is my biggest issue with Windows 10 and the reason I won't be using any computer with it.

'unless you're using Windows 10 at work, there's no way to turn down the Anniversary Update or any other Windows update.'

Of the top of my head I don't recall any tech company forcing you to get updates. With updates no longer a choice they can add or remove any function or feature they want. They can remove any 3rd party software they choose. I knew a guy taking a database class who needed Oracle installed for doing homework. Oracle is a competitor for Microsoft's Access database software, and every week when he went to class he'd find Oracle had been uninstalled by Windows 10 and there was nothing he could do about it.

I agree. It sounds like there is not going to be a way to block an update that causes problems with your environment, another reason not to switch.

Was this on a school computer? If so, the school IT department was probably at fault, not Microsoft.

That is odd, seems it would be country wide if it was happening. W10 has not touched a single installation of Oracle on the machines I use.

It was on a personal laptop. I wouldn't have believed it either if I hadn't seen it. It's the only case I've seen in person but I have read articles about Windows 10 scanning your computer and removing things likes pirated software and it's been a while since I seen one of the articles but I'm pretty sure I read that in some cases competitive software was being removed as well.

The Windows 10 Anniversary Edition is available as of yesterday 8/2/16. It's a 3GB download so plan accordingly. I had to turn off Windows Update or the downloads for my 2 PCs would have cost $48 in Verizon data usage overage charges.

Windows 98 with full office, Photoshop and other programs does just about everything I need or want...

Just saying that I don't want or need the latest or greatest for my purposes and if I have to be a rebel so be it.

I do have a Win 7 laptop for travel and find it OK...

I should be able to use the programs and hardware I bought forever if I desire... just like I still have the car I bought at age 13... my Model A Ford.

If push comes to shove they can shove it... the never ending expense of technology is one treadwheel too many... friends have spent fortunes updating all the time like every two to three years... same for cell phones... bless them for keeping the economy going is all I can say.

I agree with ultrarunner completely!
I have an assortment of notebooks and desktops that run '98, XP pro, and 7 pro. I have no intention of replacing any of them as long as they will still run.
When all this Win 10 crap started I turned off Windows Update and have no intention of ever turning it on again.
