You guys up north get to have all the fun. In East Texas its just ice and cold, no need for tractor work.

Well we survived the latest storm and didn't lose power for any length of time, any where from 1/2- 3/4" of ice. About an inch of snow, but it is still snowing. Wind gust (50 mph) took out a Maple tree which fell on the composter and the front end of the RTV in the open faced shed. The RTV appears To survived with a couple of small dents, the shed was undamaged, composter DOA.
Over 1000 homes are without power in just in our county. On the news they said they are bringing crews from Alabama to assist in repairing downed power lines in this area. With the temp dropping into the single digits and a wind chill below zero, I hope them fellers packed up some long johns if they own any. I feel sorry for those guys, this will be a shock to them. I do want to thank them for their efforts and wish them all to be safe and return home to their loved ones.

It left 18"-20" monday nite/tuesday here in NE Oklahoma . The problem is the 11 degree daytime highs with 15 below windchills during the day. I have a 1/4 mile long driveway that has from 13" to 30". Its supposed to get 7 below tonite and up to 18 degeres tomarrow  .. Hope my 50 hp blue tractor will start and if the blasted wind will lay I can make a trail to get out to the county road that hasn't been touched yet :D.

Now their saying we have another one comming in monday. Think I'll send this one through dry and let you guys up there have the snow.

22 inches seez Tom Skilling with 60 mph gusts all night, can't figure out how they measure snow blowing around so much.Half the driveway was free of snow other half had 4 1/2 foot drifts.

Took 4 hours to clear the snow with my MTD snow blower. Screened in porch roof has 3 foot drifts, will attack that tomorrow.

-14 below tonight with wind chills to -40 below, how fun.

Lost power from 6:30 pm last night until 8:00 am this morning. House was cold this morning. Gas stove and gas fireplace helped-not.

Thank god the wife was in Florida.

It just stopped snowing here. I just measured 9" of accumulation. A very average sort of snowfall for this year. No big deal. The winds didn't even kick up and tomorrow the sun will shine with a 5-10 mph wind. Nice day to clean up....

It is amazing to me how many people like to move snow around, myself included. It is almost like a sport and I don't always win, just most of the time. It also seems it does not matter if the snow amount it 3 inches or 20 inches the attitude is always the same with all here. The forum is a great place to be and be part of. I use to think I had a screw loose, so now I think I am not alone.

I spent about two hours cleaning my drive this afternoon, it's about 600' long. I did one smart thing, I bought some goggles, but I really need a face mask, which I don't have. I actually had some ice frozen on my cheek. Right now at 7:50pm, I'd say it's snowing 2" or more an hour. I can't even tell how much we've got, it's so windy.

I bought an open face helmet from the clearance rack and then got a face shield. With a balaclava underneath and a one piece Skidoo suit I'm warm and dry. Overall in south central Ontario we received about a foot of snow. Yesterday the snow was comming from the north so I think we had a streamer comming off Georgian Bay after the storm from the south. Had two or three different types of snow in the mix. The PTO shaft broke on the blower so I had to move most of the snow with the FEL on an 800ft. plus gravel driveway. Lots of seat time last night LOL!

Only got 8-10" here in Southern Ontario, drifting was my main problem. Did not make it to work because of a 4 foot drift 15 feet wide and 150 feet long from infront of my garage and down the lane. Got 2.5hrs seat time cleaning out the 500 foot driveway in the morning and another .5hrs at night cleaning up some drifts. Just using winter coveralls to keep warm and I was comfy those 2.5 hrs, no real wind to deal with.

Gee, Giz.... from the looks of your banks, I'd say it's about time to break out the loader or blower...

That is a beautiful horse. Do you have to take any special precautions for it when it gets super-cold like this? My neighbor puts "capes" on some (not all) of her horses. Just the older ones, I guess.

"I use to think I had a screw loose, so now I think I am not alone."

Yeah, I've been that way since I was a yonker. Started plowing snow with the old Panzer lawn tractor when I was old enough to reach the pedals...

Runner,
Those pictures were from late February 2010. We received over 44 inches in 3 days. I was able to sit in our Hot Tub and put my beer on the snow beside the Hot Tub without moving from the seated position.

We never had a problem with it being too cold for the horses, well once we had to leave them in the barn, it was 30 below. Use of horse blankets in cold areas is not really a good idea. In some cases the horse will start shedding it's winter coat and that is not good. BTW, we had that horse at the US Arabian Nationals. She went US east cost champion in conformation and Canadian top 10 in conformationand western pleasure. My wife and I delivered this horse ourselves, so she is special in many ways. We had 5 Arabians at one point but this is our last one, it was a fun ride.
