I am curious about Michigan and visiting there sometime. Of the big states, it's the one I know the least about and seem to hear the most about. Especially with Detroit being in the news so much lately. Until recently, there was a big ad campaign on the radio trying to get people and business to move to Michigan.
For a very long time, I thought California was the best place to live. Perfect weather, lots to do and plenty of jobs. But after awhile, I turned into just surviving and struggling to pay bills while looking for places to go on vacation to escape all the people and congestion. I left to have a life.
I wonder about living in a place where the snow is so heavy and it's so cold out that people die when they get their car stuck, or they lose power to their homes. Where you stockpile wood all summer long to get through winter, or pay thousands of dollars to keep warm in fuel or energy bills.
Here, the summers are the killer with several months in the 90's and a few days that break 100. The humidity is what you really feel with allot of those days being very humid. This past year, there was one day that I just couldn't deal with it, but other then that, I was outside in it every day, all day long. I enjoy the heat, but struggle in the cold. Today it's in the high 50's and warming up to the mid 60's. We'll have a hay ride, through horseshoes, ride fourwheelers, go for walks on our trails and maybe do a little fishing. We're expecting 30 to 40 people to be here and we'll spend most of the day outdoors. Winter here can be cold, sometimes even freezing, but it doesn't last very long and the other days are very pleasant. Two months of it, and were back to 70 degree days until July when it gets hot for two months.
We're going to New England this year to see what it's like there, but the Great Lakes area is on our list after that.
