If you get reception at your place, a cell phone is the way to go.
It is much more versatile than an intercom -- you can call your wife for help or 911 if you get hurt while she isn't home.
Plus you can take it with you everywhere. I really like the small folding kind. I can set it on vibrate in my pocket & no buttons get pushed accidentally and I can feel it ring even if I am doing something noisy. Like driving the tractor.
