Wiring Question on GL5030

I just got a WR Long grapple with the Long Electric/Hydraulic valve kit. Any suggestions on where to get power for the valve that will hot only when switch is in on position?

I do not have a shop manual so any advice is appreciated.

The fuse box is just across the dash from where the valve is located.

Thanks for the input. I do not see any unused circuits, which I had hoped for. All spaces seemed to be marked and utilized. Later today I will check the amperage draw on the valve to see if I could piggyback off one of the lesser used circuits in the fuse panel.

I have a similar setup on my GL3130 installed by the dealer. He used the work light leads located by the pto controls under the right side of the seat. I think my wires are yellow and black. He just used wire ties to fasten the wires to hoses and ran the wires under the tractor and came up through an opening at the rear of the tractor. Works great -The wires might not seem right at first because they are so thin.

mcnitt, thank you very much for the information on the wires. That is exactly what I needed to get this thing going. I hope to have time over the next several days to get some valves and hoses in place. It looks like a fairly simple task to hook everything in, so it is really just a matter of actually being able to let everything else go for a few hours. I am thinking no more than 4 hours should be required, and that is with me groping my way through the installation.

How do you like your grapple? I am eager to try mine.

I found the yellow and black wires you mentioned. They do indeed seem small in comparison to the wires on the valve solenoid, but they seem to be working for you, so I will give mine a go. There were two other wire sets in the same location on my tractor. I have no idea what purpose they might serve, but I will stay with the black and yellow.

You have been a great deal of help, which will save me a great deal of time when I do get a couple of hours to dedicate to the grapple install. I would like to get it done and try it with some downed trees to see how it works. It should work well. The GL5030 is pretty strong for its size.

I will be out your way next week on a project in Reno, so I need to get my play time in first.

Actually what I have is an ATI bucket grapple mounted on the top of my heavy duty 72" bucket. The heavy duty bucket is the curved back version; I'm not sure if it makes a difference.
I am not totally satified with it due to my own false expectations. It certainly works as it should, but what I thought I would be able to do with it is pick up a log or tree and hold it in place with the grapple. The problem is that the bucket really can't get under the log brecause the bucket has sides. What is needed is something for the grapple to oppose, like a thumb on a back hoe bucket. My solution was to purchase a bolt on trash fork which will allow me to get under a log or tree, roll the bucket back, and trap it with the grapple. It is especially useful when I want to buck up the log; it's like holding it in a vise.
All in all, it is a usefull tool and I have adapted it's use to my needs. When you get yours all bolted up, please post a photo so the rest of us can see what you did.

I am hoping to get some time either today or tomorrow to begin installing the valve, and I do not believe it will take long to get it done.

I look forward to trying it out. I have a B7510 with a Woods backhoe and thumb that can move smaller or shorter logs, but I do not have enough front end weight to actually move as much as it will pick up, especially on hills. It is also limited in grasp capacity, so grapple will be great for larger logs, and larger piles of logs. I had considered a bucket grapple but have bent the sides of the bucket on my B7510 trying to get logs out of the woods, thus decided something much stronger and more capable was in order. The bucket sides on the L5030 are heavy enough to take a lot of abuse, but as you mentioned, do get in the way of getting of trying to get under several logs at a time. The combinition of what I had learned with both tractors trying to move logs led me to selecting a WR Long root grapple. It appears to be very strong, so I suspect I will be able to do whatever I want with no risk of harm to the implement or tractor.

I will try to get pictures when I am done. I know there are others out there with grapples on various Kubota models, but nobody else has had any input at all. I appreciate your efforts in helping me get this done.

I have completed the grapple installation. It probably took less than two hours total to install the Long electric/hydraulic valve, the hoses, and the electrical.

As a quick test, I picked up a couple of logs in the woods beside the road into my place. It is much like anything else mechanical in that I will need a little practice to get proficient, but it is certainly a good tool. I have enough downed trees to keep me busy for a long time to come.

I will attach a couple of pictures from the first test and get more pictures later showing the installation details.

Used insulated spade connectors on lines to solenoid valve so they may be reversed if I desired different flow direction in relation to switch position on joystick.

I used the worklight circuit but actually got the power from the fuse panel. I was not sure the 7.5a circuit was sufficient but it is more than adequate. I wired it in temporarily in case I wanted to do something different. Now that I see how little current it really draws I will wire it into the fuse panel permanently, probably getting power from the hazard lights feed circuit. I can't see that I would ever use the hazard lights and the grapple at the same time. I will insert a 10a inline blade fuse.

That was a good idea to use spade connectors. I wired mine with twist connectors to determine which switch direction I wanted to use then used crimp splice connectors to do the permanent attachments.

I am still surprised there is not an available, switched circuit under the dash that could be used for such installations, or lights, or whatever.
