Good Evenin Dusty,
God Bless and good luck, nothing like standing out in the middle of your field and sayin to yourself this is mine, in my case Kathleens' and mine !
Go for it, my wife and I did last year, no kids so we bought the place of our dreams and still have the old home, nothing better than realizing your on piece of paradise while you can still enjoy it, and even more importantly; enjoy it with the ones you love and mean so much to you!
It's a pretty good feeling to walk out in the middle of your land, look around and say to yourself "This is all mine!" Of course after that you start seeing things that need t be done, fence rows cleaned, ditches cleared out, trees cut back. But then you can say, well, I got MY fence row cleaned, MY ditch cleared.
Good luck! There is nothing like owning a large parcel of wooded land. And it is hard to get hurt financially on land in this market if you hold onto it (assuming you are paying a price in line with current real estate values).
Go for it! I purchased 27 acres in 2006 for hunting with my son. We started with a small trailer to sleep in, in 2009 I had a log cabin built. Only wish I could have done it earlier. My son, now 25 loves it as much as I do.
