Pickup and delivery was $75 round trip (about 50 miles, on country roads, and through several towns, so maybe 1.5 hours of their drivers' time total). They charged me half their normal charge for that amount of time/mileage because, as luck would have it, the dealer has a lease contract with a large landscape center and I am close to halfway between them, so they have to come this way a few times a week anyway.

Very nice of them to do that!

So after all is said and done, are you still wishing you had a Deere?

Naw. Like I said in an earlier post, I do regret the title I chose for the thread, because I realize that the problem I had was very minor and it could just as easily have occurred on a Deere. I do wonder, though, whether doing basic maintenance on a comparably equipped Deere is more easy due to more thoughtful design. Ease of use means a lot to me. Maybe it is, maybe its not, but I have to say I am sure Kubota could do more to make it easier for owners to service their own Kubotas.

I am glad, though, that the Kubota dealer near me is such a great group of guys. They've been extremely helpful and responsive to my needs (which, when compared to their other customers, my needs and business for them are pretty small potatoes). I'd recommend them to anyone who asked.

Great to hear things worked out for you!! Now come down to HOT Missouri and help me do the 300 hr service on my BX22 :D I don't look forward to it - may even take it to dealer. I've never done that before, but hey, there's always a first

Well, I don't have to go far for HOT. It was 101 degrees here yesterday, and stayed hot all evening. By 10 pm last night, it was still 94. Things will cool off a bit today, but by the weekend, we'll be heading back toward the 90s. If it were this hot when I needed service done, I wouldn't do it myself. Too much risk of heat stroke (I have Type 1 ("juvenile") Diabetes).

10 minutes to change the oil doesn't surprise me. That's about how long it should take. It took me 5-10 minutes to change the oil on my JD after the first time I did it.

Changing the oil (and doing nothing else) on the BX 2230 would have taken me 10 minutes too (if the drain plug had not been a problem), but changing the oil filter requires that you remove the entire front grille (and of course put it back on when you are done). Not a big deal, but its plastic so you don't want to crack it or scratch it.

You doesn't hasta to do that.
I've changed oil in my bx23 6 times.
Takes me an hour including a 10 minute break every 5 minutes.

Is it tough to get at the transmission oil filter while the mower is still on (60" deck)?
Not if you use a 3 claw filter wrench.
lower the mower down from fully lifted.
You can run the tractor tires up on 2x6 blocks stacked 2 high if you like; gives you 3 more inches of clearance under the tractor.
