I had dinner tonight with my son's best friend who I still look upon as my other son. We were at a local Texas Roadhouse franchise and our waitress came by after we were done and proffered us each a small white candle. Nothing was said beyond "Would you like a candle?"
She lit each of ours off a lighted one she was carrying. The lights in the restaurant were dimmed and there was dead silence among the patrons and employees alike. It was 9:11 PM and the only sound was the national anthem from the televisions in the barroom. When it ended the entire place erupted in applause.
This entire event occured without any preamble at all. It all happened from "Would you like a candle?" and without another word.
