Wood splitter

I have a MF 135 Deisel. Last winter I borrowed a neighbors 3 pt hitch log splitter, but has since moved away. The splitter was old and dirty, could not read any markings on it except I know it said Prince on the Hydalic pump.The splitter did not use the tractors lines but had a pump that ran off of the tractors PTO, a 4 way wedge on the splitter also.I would like to own one like it but am afraid that with so little information I.D would be near impossible. Can anyone tell me who makes a wood splitter that runs off of the tractors PTO, my tractor does not have hydrolic lines. Titan1

Do a Google search on "pto wood splitter" You will find choices including Timber Wolf, Wood Splitters Direct and others.

There are tons of them. Northern tool sells at least on model and you can find PTO powed splitters everywhere.

It might have been home made, like mine. They're fairly simple to build. Just google it. Most parts can be picked up used for little money and the rest can be bought at most auto stores. Know anyone that does some welding? I think I got $300 invested.

Ok, found a good place to start! Thank you very much guys!!! And dking, lol now you've got me thinking of building one instead!! lol I do got a welder to do the job and parts could be picked up cheap at a friends salvage yard!! I will give it some thought. Thank you all again. Titan1

Here is a good American made PTO Log Splitter.

Its the only 3 pt splitter on the market that can go flat on the ground like this so you can just roll up the big logs on the beam not having to pick them up or mess with a HV beam. 9" wedge on the end to push through rather then on the cylinder so if your splitter anything stringy you don't have to worry about dislodging it etc.

Check out the log splitters at TSC.

How many GPM's does your tractor produce? If you don't have rear remotes, you can add them.

Another way is to run a hose off the PB port to the back with a QD, and another hose with QD from the 3pt, for the return on the log splitter. If your not using the log splitter, then a short jumper hose will connect the two back hoses.

A third way is to use the curl circuits and and run two hoses to the back with QD's, and plug in your log splitter.

Here is some data for a 4 in cyl and 2 in shaft.

Push force at 3000 psi= 37,698lbs = 18.84 T

Pull force at 3000 psi = 28,274 lbs = 14.137 T

PUSH--------2500 psi = 31,416 lbs = 15.7 T

Pull----------2500 psi = 23,562 lbs = 11.78 T

Your cycle time will be based on the hyd pump flow in GPM's

That's a nice looking unit. With the type of splitter that pushes against a wedge, you are always picking up resplits off the ground if you don't have a table at the end....

A table is not very had to add. Also I have been splitting some large rounds lately many of them in the 100 lb range. I do as you said and lower the splitter to the ground and only have to lift the log 6 or 8 inches. I then bring it back up to a comfortable working height and split. My splitter is a moving wedge design and the splits fall onto the work tables in each side for resplit.
