What's the joy stick on the left, next to the steering wheel?
By the way, very good job.

Neat. Someone posted a link a while back to a company that makes those for skid steers. Looks like a good concept.

Did you put that feature on yourself or is that something you can buy from PowerTrac?

Don't you remember who did that originally to that tractor? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The modification was made by mckat (Mike Catherina) the person I bought the 422 from. A simple but very effective addition.

Yes, I thought it was brilliant as well.

Nice job.

I am thinking about turning my 3pth log splitter upside down for use on my 1445.

What is the size of your cylinder?

J.J. I used a 4” cylinder and drove it off the PTO. The cycle time was just under 10 seconds at full throttle (24” stroke). A 5” cylinder of course would have been more powerful but the 4” will be good enough. With your 1445 you could easily use a 5“cylinder if you want to cut oak knots into. I looked back at the sample of the one you have and it looks like you can add a little to the beam, a quick attach plate, and a few hoses and you will be in business. At the base of mine I added a little metal to let it set steady on the floor when stored. Of course you will want to mount the valve where you can reach it from the seat. Your 1445 would be very good about lifting much heaver loads. I figure I can lift about 250 to 300 lbs. with mine. Good luck and send us some pics.

Combine with a swiveling quick attach and you have a poor man's tree shear /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I am considering a 12 v electric hyd solenoid valve for my splitter, with the valve mounted on or near the I- beam and installing a wire back to the dash for a toggle switch. I can get the 12 v valves for about $90.00 bucks. The only thing is that it will be full speed fwd and reverse, no slow mode.

I think I gave about $70.00 for the valve I used but if the 12 volt solenoid is what you want I wouldn’t let 20 bucks stand in the way. I guess you will still have to plug two hoses into the PTO. I am sure it will be easer to plug the electrical connection in rather than mount the valve and valve mount as mine is designed. Not a bad idea. The valve I use is a regular log splitter valve. It will lock in, in return mode and when it reaches its full return the valve pops its self back to neutral. If you let go of it in forward mode it comes back to center at that moment. It is kind of nice about the return mode. You can let go and the cylinder is returning as you maneuver to another log. Left hand on steering, right hand on lift and tilt leaver.

When I installed the ROP on my 422 I had to redesign the wood splitter control mount. It really turned out well and now there are no bolts or nuts to fool with. Just slip the controls off the splitter where they store and slide them into the mount on the PT.
