</font><font color="blue" class="small">( I tried closing off the 3ph valve to keep it from moving up into the bh frame. What I found was that it keeps it from dropping, but not from raising. In fact, the 3ph was raising up "by itself" with the valve closed even though I never moved the lift lever. I'm not sure why it does this.

That's just how that valve is supposed to operate. I think the suggestion was to raise the arms and then lock down the valve to keep the arms from dropping.
Why yours is raising without the lever in the up position is a wonder.
On my CK20, I can raise the arms and then let them rest on the backhoe frame, hitch lever in the low position, because I have on Pat's easy hitches on the ends of the arms which allows them to sit right on the frame.
