Woods RC5

My Woods RC5 does not skid shoes, how important are these? They run about $100 a pair with hardware.
Also, has anyone removed the rear band for better discharge?
They say RC5 is rated at 18hp and my Branson 2400H is rated at either 22 or 18 depending on who you ask.
Weight is 485 and my is rated at 1100 rear arms. I know the 5hp per ft rule but the 4' seem really small.
See any problems running this for shrubs, field grass?
Have the option of some good used 4' cutters but they will not cover wheel width.

I use a 5ft on my 2400H with no problems but am also on level ground and never connect the top link. Typically cutting grass and weeds 2 to 3 ft tall.

Skid shoes are nice if dragging unit on the ground due to dips or swales.

I'd think twice about removing band also acts as shield keep hard object from flying out.
