I like RedWing boots. Style 2292 they are insulated and have the composite toe. Very comfortable and lite. I wear these year round everyday.

I wear size 18EEE. The only boots I can find around here is by ordering them through a redwing dealer.

18EEE Wow ! they have to wait until they kill a cow. So, they can use the entire cow for your 1 pr. of boots:D

I wear Red Wing Style 2292 logger boots. They are insulated steel toe, not composite toe and they certainly aren't light! Awesome boot.

My last pair was Redwing (made in the USA).
Unfortunately they did not last as long as I would have hoped in accordance with the price.... the lining seperated from the leather so when you pull your heel in it would pull down. I'll probably have them sewed up.

Meanwhile I bought a pair of Carhartt boots that I LOVE!!!
Made in China, but they are really comfy.

I also use steel toe w/ steel shank type boots.

IM fond of the CAROLINA brand.Ihave to wear steel toes at work,im outside and still wear these year round.I usually wear them on the weekends too.Ill wear out the bottoms ,before they ever fall apart.Ican tell when ive worn them ,because my back will bother me and its the only time it does .Can get 2 years plus out of a pair in an industrial setting.

I'm a week late but I just saw this. I've got a year and a half on a pair of steel toe Georgia boots here offshore. They are more comfortable than my old Red Wings and look like they will last as long. Buy some laces if you get the lace ups, the ones that come with don't last too long under duress.

Think about the terrain you will be wearing the boots in.... if it is mucky, I recommend lace ups... the pull on boots stay down in the mud for me when it gets over the ankles:eek:

I have both kinds... have worn redwings steel toes.... however, for me, now, I have a problem with my foot (not caused by redwing) such that I need more flexibility in the sole than a steel toe provides.

When I wore steel toes, there were numerous situations where I was aware that they saved me from significant pain... If you can wear them, I'd get them.

I don't think a guy can go too far wrong with Redwings.

I wore them exclusively for about 20 years. Lately I have switched to Danner, because they usually weigh less.

Whenever I buy a pair of boots, I add a set of these SOLE Heat Moldable Custom Shoe Insoles, Shoe Inserts, Arch Supports.

They are the biggest aid to comfort I have ever tried. Essentially, you bake these insoles in your oven for a few minutes, and then mold them to your feet.

They are expensive, but they really work and are worth it.

CurlyDave, I just recently saw the heat moldable inserts and thought... maybe I should give them a try....now, with your recommendation, they have moved higher on my wish list.... thanks for the info!
