Good Evenin Mike,
Agreed, I just bought another pair of Chippewa top of the line, $200 before I got the Bobs' Store discount ! They are very comfortable and worth the money IMO, and made in the USA ! :)

Howdy Scott!

I paid just over $200.00 for these: Bay Apache To me, well worth the money. Very comfortable, after getting them broke in, and great support. That means my feet don't ache at the end of a 12 hr shift at the refinery.

Not all Chippewa boots are made in the USA, they have their "The Spirit of Nations" line.

Good Evenin mj,
You are correct, they have some cheaper inports that run around $100 to $125 but not nearly the boot that Mike posted ! ;)

PS Mike thats the boot that I have, very nice footwear !

I am kind of late to this thread but here are my two cents.

First off, do not buy boots from an online store unless they have a free return policy. There is nothing worse then buying boots online and when you get them they fit terribly then you have to pay to ship them back.

Find a good boot store (we have Stagecoach West locally which is a horse owners store with an amazing boot selection), try on as many boots as you can that fit your desire (steel toe or non, agressive tread or hard surface tread, what type of lace system (I dispise eylets on 9" boots, I prefer the hooks as it is so much easier to put the boots on and off), insulated or non, waterproof or non....

When you narrow down all the boots to the few that meet your needs then try them on and buy the most comfortable pair regardless of price or brand name. I bought a couple pairs of boots from Cabelas and tried them on. They were stiff so I figured they would break in over time. I conditioned the leather and wear them from time to time but they are still very stiff and uncomfortable but I can't send them back now. The best pair of boots I owned was a pair of Wolverines, the worst pair of boots I owned was a pair of Wolverines also. So they all make good ones and crappy ones. Best of luck

Hey Scott... I get a lot of comments on the flag tags!:D

I also agree with Robert on not buying off the internet. I have a hard time finding good fittting boots and usually spend quite a bit of time trying on pair after pair. I bought these boots at Raven Rock Workwear in Erie, PA. BTW It came down to a choice between these and very nice pair of Wolverines in the same price range and the Chippewas won! My wife was glad the whole process only took around 45 minutes instead of the usual couple of hours!:p

PS I also own a pair of Redwings that are also a very good boot but in need of new soles.

Boot sizes vary, and for a given # are usually roomier than the same # in an athletic shoe. I have Red Wing work boots and am happy with them. They make larger sizes in some models, I would ask the store if any can be ordered. I especially like Red Wing because most of their products are still made in the USA (it was ALL until just a few years ago, sigh) and you get some nice service including free cleaning and laces for the life of the boots. Also, in my limited personal experience their dealers are better than the average shoe store.

Red Wing Shoes

I don't know of anything wrong with any brand you list. Another option would be US Army combat boots, the 80's through late 90's style, made by several companies including Altama. I find they fit great and are made in any possible size, including unbelievably huge. I would look at the websites of Altama and Belleville Shoe Company (I'm not sure if Belleville still makes the style I'm referring to, though).

I would not get steel toed boots. They are often very uncomfortable. They DO make sense if you are working in an industrial environment like a machine shop, underground mining, etc. I do not wear any for tractoring and have never missed them. But I suppose if you are extremely clumsy they might make sense.

I agree Redwing, redwing, REDWING Its the best shoe I have found, little priceee, but they last and they have a warranty. Try Google, Try Ebay for Redwing
GoodLuck

I didn't realize you lived in Warren. I saw your screen name and figured you lived in Iowa till you mentioned Erie. If you have never been to Stagecoach West you should stop in before you buy your next pair of boots. They are located on Rt 5 & 20 in Irving just before you enter the Reservation (its about 1.5 hours from Warren). They recently expanded their boot selection and even though I don't need a pair of boots right now I look anyway as they reduce boots from time to time to clear inventory and I have got some great deals over the years when I find boots that fit me right.
