Yeah, my buddy talks about it every time gas or diesel goes up or down a penny.

I can't tell you within .25 cents what I'm paying at any given time. I never look. Doesn't matter.

As for my additive, Power Service white bottle, costs .05 cents a gallon to winterize. That's the cheapest expense in operating my equipment. :)

Sounds like Gelling. You didn't mention what you use for treatment to control Gelling in your Diesel fuel??

I'd be just like you. If my gas tractor was the one I could count on I'd prefer it as well.

Power Service from Wally World......another problem some folks have up here with diesel is if it's not kept fresh they'll get algae of some sort clogging their filters.....I never have that problem myself but I change my filters often and don't allow fuel to sit for months before I use it.

Yep. My brother got algae in his storage tank. Very, very bad.

The algae comes from moisture, keep the moisture out, and you won't have algae, even in long term storage.

I've never had it, and I've stored fuel for years...

I believe that is true. A potential problem comes if your supplier pumps algae into your tank.

Algae in diesel, that's new to me. How long does that take for that to happen, must be longer then 4 months, that's the longest I've had diesel fuel on hand in a 6 gallon containers.
I get 18 gal. of fuel in 3 jugs at once when I diesel up, bring the jugs back home, then add a couple ounces of Power Service (PS) diesel additive to them, so far after 8 years, no algae, no jello and no problem starting my tractor and battery drill.

I've only experienced the algae problem once. I can't specifically answer your question about it. He** I can't even explain how a living organism can survive in a pitch black tank of diesel fuel. In my Brother's case his tank was contaminated for several months before he figured out where the problem was. It contaminated all of his equipment. Looked like black pond slime in the filters. He bought a product to put in the tank to kill it. Can't remember what they call that stuff. Maybe a biocide??? Someone help me with that one.

Biocide is correct, Power Service Bio Clean is one brand. Green on the label I think instead of red (911), gray (treatment), or white (treatment + anti gel).

The allege grows in the water, tank sweat would be a major cause. I've seen it but not in my tank thankfully. Sometimes it's a black slime but I've also seen it as a gooey snot like substance, in both color and texture.

Thanks for covering me on that one Derek!!! :)

I only had one horrible algie issue on a JD 770, some ten or so years ago.

People talk about gas/diesel prices. No one ever considers that the calibration varies from place to place and fuel truck to fuel truck. Consider me suspicious, but I always seem to need more fuel when I go to the cheapest place! You Yanks are lucky. You didn't get hosed into that metric/litre BS! Makes a BIG difference when the prices go up, or when the pumps are not calibrated in your favour.
