Worst oil change ever

You may think I'm crazy, ya may be right. But the first problem I see machine is behind the VW logo. I've bought 3 New VWs since 2009 The first 2 were Jetta TDI SELs Realy the only problem with the first one was AC compressor and speed sensors. The second one I traded at 30K so it never gave me any issues. The third was a Passat TDI SEL because it had great backseat leg room. I replaced all 4 speed sensors one at a time, the dealer said it would be over 400$ each, I did them myself for about 30$ and 30 minutes each. The service writer said I couldn't do it myself because they needed to be programmed (B/S) Simple magnetic pulse device. The next issue was the AC compressor which was covered on extended warranty, then the water pump started leaking Extended warr again. the next was the DSG transmission replaced Extanded warr again. Then the radio quit working found that the warranty didn't cover radios,VW wanted 2500$ for a radio, Ebay for 695$. Then I started smelling coolant very close to the end of my extended warr, and I had to top off the coolant a few times, dealer said they couldn,t find a leak. About a month after the warranty expired I found the leak at the oil filter / cooler housing. Replaced the cooler/ filter housing with after market due to the ridiculous price VW wanted. Got a lot of good practice at swearing while replacing the housing. Several months later aftermarket bit me where I sit as it started leaking oil, got to perfect swearing. The factory and the first Cooler / filter housings were plastic and the whole time I was replacing them I was saying how stupid it was to make them out of plastic, Lo and behold aftermarket started making an aluminum housing (Thank Heavens) The I started loosing coolant again and wouldn't you know it was another plastic part dead with age, ya gotta love plastic engine parts. It was a plastic elbow on the left side of the block or head don't remember which. But it was almost impossible to get to . So no more VWs for me.
Some VW engine use a plastic pipe on the cooling system that fails so often it is known as the "crack pipe". I have had good luck with VWs, yet known others that have not.

I went to change the oil on my wife’s Genesis. It holds 9 quarts so I got my large plastic pan which holds 15+ quarts. Got the car up on the ramps, put the pan under and pulled the plug. All is well so far.

I crawl back under to put the plug back in after10 minutes or so and see about a quart of oil under the pan. Oh crap! THERE IS A CRACK IN THE BOTTOM OF THE PAN.

I go and get a piece of cardboard to slip under the pan so I don’t spread the oil out more than already done. Slide the pan out on the cardboard and realize there is no way to carry the pan with 8 quarts of oil plus hold the cardboard under it outside to the waste can.

OK, I’ll bring the waste can in, put it on the cardboard and pour the oil in.

Put the funnel in the can and start pouring. I get about half the oil in the can and THE FUNNEL FALLS OUT with about a half a quart of oil in it. Hits the floor and splashes oil 10’ in every direction. Oh crap 2!

I go to get the oil dry and find that I don’t have any, just have floor sweeping compound. I spread that around and it helps a little but not like oil dry.

Of course anything within 10’ is splashed with oil and will need to be cleaned separately.

Shoulda stood in bed this morning.

What has this got to do with tractors? You shouldn't have bought a Korean car, because koreans eat dogs.

I’ve looked at your 38 posts and most have nothing to do with tractors. Pot calling the kettle black?

My ex-neighbor who is a doctor lost his VW Jetta motor that same way after going to Jiffy Lube. It was first thing in the morning and he was running late for work. He never saw the oil light either. He did get a brand new motor out of the fiasco.
I have gotten oil changes done at my local Jiffy Lube for the last 20 years or so without a problem. But, I always set in the waiting room where I can see them pour the oil back in. Whenever I am under one of my vehicles, I always check the drain plug, and it's always been tight.
The only nit I ever have to pick with them is leaving oily fingerprints on the hood and/or fender. The manager always checks it now when they pull it out of the bay.

Went to a Jiffy Lube many, many years ago, I had a two door K-car which was in very good condition. They had a central pit, you drove the car over it, someone in the pit drained the oil, put the drain plug back in, and someone up top filled the crankcase.

I looked into the pit - there was a human down there, grimy, oil soaked, work shoes, heavy clothes (it was "winter" here in Florida at the time) - remember the Morlocks from H.G. Wells The Time Machine? That's what the person looked like . . . and it was a woman!

They got done and the "topside" person slammed the hood down - both hands - HARD - as though the car was his personal enemy and had been for 10,000 years, now it was time to get REVENGE.

Since then I have changed my own oil on everything. Local Jiffy Lube (and competitors) now start at $50 for a simple oil change and filter with dino oil, synthetic goes way more.

Kind of a nuisance, but oil is cheap, engines are not.

Best Regards,
Mike/Florida

Oil changes in my area are $100.00+ for synthetic. Do my own at home. $34 for Mobil1 and filter and peace of mind as I just don't trust the instant change places. So many instances of negative incidents from these business

It can always be worse.

You could have not noticed and then accidentally poured a gritty substance in your engine, dropped a lit doobie on the floor and started an oil fire and succumbed to the smoke in an agonizing death.

🎶 Always look on the bright side of life....🎶

Same. I've always done my own, on every vehicle I've ever owned. I don't care so much about the cost, but I like to know it's done right, and it makes me get under the vehicle at least twice per year to eyeball other things.

Moreover, I can do an oil change in about 15 minutes, and if I do a few vehicles in a single session, I can amortize the setup and cleanup time over the lot of them. I can set up, change our three cars, check some other things while I'm at it, and have everything cleaned up and put away in maybe 60 - 90 minutes. It takes more time than that per vehicle, to drive somewhere and wait for it to be done. My time is worth more to me, than that.
