Would anyone pay 28k for a NEW 8n?

You guys are right, of course. I tend to forget that not everyone needs a higher HP tractor like I do. If the Boomer 8N had been closer to the original and more in the range of most buyers, it would have been great for NH. If I wanted a 50+ HP tractor, there were plenty of good, hard working NH tractors already available in that range.

If you had ever really tried to farm with an 8N you would be happy they didn't make it close to the original.:D Now a Jubilee, 600 or 800 series was good tractor. I did like the like looks of the retro 8N. It was a really cool idea to do it. It would be hard to really use one like a tractor.:)

Well, Neil and our other NH dealer friend both say a tractor around 30 to 35 hp. That's exactly the range of the Jubilee/NAA/600 tractors and fits well in the range of the Class II Boomers. Notice also that they said an HST model instead of the CVT transmission. They are suggesting a Class II Boomer with restyled sheet metal and paint. It would have been minimum cost to NH to manufacture and would have been wildly popular in the Class II range. Oh well. . . ain't gonna happen.:(

Yes, that would have been the magic formula.

Isn't it amazing the folks on this forum figured it out along with dealers, but the designers/marketing folks in the corporate office didn't.

On other side of the coin; if it was a sheet metal change and some fancy items added; people would state that all CNH did was exactly that; so why pay any more for it.

Catch 22

Here we go again.

"...lots of complaints with the CVT transmission...."

I have one, and I love the CVT transmission. It transmits all the power to the ground, does not have the hydro whine, and is a joy to use. I have emailed and talked in fora with lots of 8N owners, and have not heard a complaint with the CVT trannie.

Maybe the complaints are from people who don't have them, and are sick of that hydro whine - with the 8N there's no need to wear earplugs. All you hear is the sweet power of the 50 hp diesel.

If there are actual 8N owners out there who have complaints with the CVT, let's hear them. I'd like to know, since maybe I'm not schooled enough to know what I shouldn't be liking.

It is pretty amazing what my little 1720 can do with 28 HP and front wheel assist. With a loaded weight of 3300# you can do a lot of stuff. I agree that a 30 to 35 HP model with a lower price point would have been a winner. The new 8N is a great looker but it's too pretty in my opinion. I would wear it out waxing it.

I drove the 8N and I really really liked the CVT. It seems to me to be the best of both worlds between a HST and a gear tractor! If could get a bigger tractor with a CVT like a 5055E Deere or Workmaster 55 thats what I would be getting! No ifs ands or doubts...

Wow, I really find the posts here interesting. I remember when I saw the advertisement on the 8n at the dealer's and was shocked it was such a "big" tractor. I guess I'm not the only one. 30-35 hp would have really been ideal, and could have been priced in line with what a crazy person like me might consider.. $30,000+ is out of the question for many, imho.
