From everything that you've posted, South Bend sounds like a decent place to live.
Or perhaps it's just the perspective of the poster?
Are you forgetting South Bend's loser of a mayor?

When you compare on a scale using the previous mayor as a standard you give an unfair advantage to him or anyone you compare.
What would he rate when compared to the expectations you would set for yourself or your own children? My guess would be he would rank closer to a 1 or 2 with the former mayor being in the negative numbers!
Politics aside, and as far as amount of work and motivation of the locals, he got a lot done while mayor. The town hasn't looked this active or attractive since the mid 60's. LOTS of new construction on large projects and an active night-life area in the downtown. I can't vote for mayor because I don't live inside the city limits. I did not like several of the mayors before him, nor some of the ones that were in office when I did live inside the city limits. I'd have to give him an 8 out of 10 overall as compared to his predecessors. He always appears open, honest, sincere, and intelligent. I first met him back around 2010 when he was the main speaker at my daughter's National Honor Society induction. The publisher of our local newspaper told me I should pay attention to this "kid" when he gave the talk, because he was going places. Overly mature for his young age. He speaks multiple languages.
And the loser has a military service record...
Military service
In 2014, Buttigieg began his deployment at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan.
Buttigieg joined the U.S. Navy Reserve through the direct commission officer (DCO) program and was sworn in as an ensign in naval intelligence in September 2009.[64] In 2014, he took a seven-month leave during his mayoral term to deploy to Afghanistan.[65][66][67] While there, Buttigieg was part of a unit assigned to identify and disrupt terrorist finance networks. Part of this was done at Bagram Air Base, but he was also an armed driver for his commander on more than 100 trips into Kabul. Buttigieg has jokingly referred to this role as "military Uber", because he had to watch out for ambushes and explosive devices along the roads and ensure that the vehicle was guarded.[68] In order to better communicate with the local Afghans, he learned some Dari (a dialect of the Persian language). Buttigieg was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal[5] and resigned his commission from the U.S. Navy Reserve in 2017.[69][70]
There you go being crazy judging a man on his merits rather than his political party blasphemy!!
Anywho... back to electric trucks.
For a second vehicle, I could really use something about the size of the old Volkswagen Rabbit pickup. I rack quite a few miles up running back and forth to my garden/livestock area, even though it's only 1/4 mile. something simple and inexpensive for that, and to run to the PO or town would be handy. I even was looking at the Prius; and probably would have bought one if I had first found an F250 that I liked.
