Need some help with x758. I bought this used and have put about three tanks of diesel(I know very little about diesel systems) thru it. I ran it out of fuel and have not been able to start it since. I don稚 know if I have two coincidental problems or not. I filled the tank and it took every drop of 5 gallons. It was on a small incline when it stopped and I have since moved it to a level position. This does not have the electric fuel pump it is cam driven. I tried to use the mechanical lever on the fuel transfer pump and it didn稚 seem too move any fuel into the filter. I did fill the filter container and placed it back on the machine but this did not help. Right after the machine stopped(after I put fuel in the tank), when I tried to start it, it would attempt to start but just quit as though there was some residual fuel but now it just cranks but doesn稚 try to start. I知 thinking maybe the fuel transfer pump needs to be replaced and possible that there is air in the line.

Here is where I decided to check and make sure the fuel solenoid and relay were working. They were not and I had the key on and the brake pedal pushed in. My seat interlock and the RIO have been made inoperative by the previous owner. I have voltage at the seat interlock so this should give voltage to the display panel(A1) and there for provide voltage to the fuel relay coil to temporarily activate the pullin coil of the solenoid and provide constant voltage to the holdin coil. I do not have voltage from the display panel at the fuel relay and there is no voltage at the connector for the solenoid, so at these two places I have neither pullin or holdin voltage from the display panel. All the lights seem to be working correctly on the display panel when I turn the key to the run position.

Ok so I don稚 Know if I have more than one problem? Can running out of fuel or air in the line cause the lose of voltage to the fuel solenoid. I have the TM manual but they don稚 show anything about what goes on in the display panel. The TM manual is certainly helpful but believe it could have been written a little better. How do I bleed air out of this system? Should I just replace the fuel transfer pump as it just would not seem to pump fuel or will air in the system or the solenoid not working stop it from working? I have checked interlocks as best I could but believe that voltage at the seat switch should provide the proper voltage at the display panel. I don稚 see any easy way to get to the display panel connectors, any ideas on that? Do you know of anybody jumper voltage to the fuel solenoid to make it work temporarily?

Maybe it痴 just off to the John Deere dealer but just trying to save a little money and time, besides it痴 nice to learn these things.

Thanks ahead of time for any help

the main thing is to get fuel in all the hoses by disconnecting the inlet sides and letting the hoses fill up. once all the hoses are refilled, especially the one to the injection pump, it should start!.. it's a no wonder rental companies charge $50 if you run a diesel out of fuel!..

I agree completely with Radios1 but you should have an owner's manual. It should tell you how to bleed air from the fuel system. They're all basically the same but different brands and models may have a specific sequence in which to remove trapped air.

The JD X758 has a self-priming system, so am thinking more pumping on the mechanical pump will help the most... and have experienced what seemed like a lot of pumping that wasn't helping. Get back to that stage where it runs a little bit, and keep trying. For me, it just takes a few times doing that to get running again.
Not sure what your coincidental problem thoughts are.. maybe just confounding your efforts to get the fuel to the inj. pump.

I don't know what to say about this. It would be unusual for two things to fail at the same time, however it appears that the fuel shut off valve is not being energized during the start/crank cycle. So it looks like there maybe an electrical issue.

Have you checked all the fuses?

I have checked the fuses and believed voltage being at the seat interlok switch eliminated problems with the interlok fuses but I would like to check at the display panel and don't see an easy way to do that? Seeing as I don't have a clue how the display panel works the only thing I know what to do is check the in and out pins for the correct voltages. Thanks for the reply Richard
