I've had two manual feed chippers. Wallenstein BX42S and now - BX62S. Neither have required that I stand and push anything into the chipper. When it's chipping, it "pulls" so hard - it's scared a few folks who have come out to help. One gal let out a short scream and jumped back.
Once a fresh cut pine tree hits the blades - there is ABSOLUTELY no backing out. I just drop them in the in-feed chute - turn and go grab another.
My pines average - 3" x 22'. The range is - 1" to 6".
If you have to continuously "push" - - something isn't right.
exactly how mine, the BX42S works too OOSIK, once I get it started, it pulls it right on through, I can turn around and walk away. By the time I get back with the next limb, that one is chipped and in the pile. The tree guy really liked how easy it was to get to the flywheel to clear clogs, or access the blades. He said it was a half hour deal to clear a clog on his old one. He didn't say what brand it was, but he no longer had it.
I bought the BX42S based on 3 things:
1 - ordered from Titan, and paid $1100 for it. Cost was a big factor for me, free shipping and it was here in less than a week
2 - it falls perfectly in the range for my tractor according to the specs
3 - it only chips up to a 3" with my HP range, but anything bigger than that we cut up for firewood anyway
all my neighbors love me, I regularly clear any fallen limbs for them, LOL building a pretty decent mulch pile that's aging nicely. Today I'm going out to (hopefully) finish cleaning up the limbs from that pine we had cut down, as a big part of the mess is in the way of where we want to plant some trees that got here yesterday from the arbor day foundation
