oh and I would fancy a guess that there's not a nickels worth of difference in your Bestco and my Titan....both china knockoffs, but they get the job done

Okay I bought a b e t s t c o 4" chipper. It came today and a friend and myself put it together in a couple hours. But my remaining problem is I cannot get the PTO to snap in to the shaft on the tractor. I can get it to snap in on the shaft on the chipper but the tractor we tried for over an hour and could not get it to snap in. Any suggestions

Would I be correct in guessing that this is your first pto attachment? If so, welcome to a world of challenges ;-)

first, a picture of the end of the shaft and the end of the coupler that you are attempting to attach would help.

There are two main types of pto shaft retainers... a spring loaded bolt with a notch that seats in a groove and a ball bearing system where the bearings seat in the same slot.

Since this is the first time you are attempting to attach, the retainer could have a problem. A first test would be to see if the tractor end will secure to the chipper. That would determine if the problem is the coupler or the shaft.

Another test would be to uncouple the chipper end and see if the tractor end will then secure. If so, there is something restricting the shafts ability to slide.

Is anything else possibly limiting the ability for the tractor end to seat such as the safety collar?

I have a Walker mower with a PTO and it could be a challenge but over the years I figured it out. I just ordered the quick PTO connect disconnect. I'm not going to put up with this **** every time I want to use the wood chipper

Once the splines mate and the coupler slides even a short distance on the shaft you can let go of the spring loaded bolt and the retention bolt should snap into place when it gets to the retention groove on the shaft.

If you can't get the coupler to mate with the shaft splines or slide less than an inch, that normally means that the retention bolt is not pressed far enough in to allow the shaft to seat.

If the distance between the retention bolt and end of the coupler is too far, or if there is something on the shaft or in the spline grooves, that could be restricting the ability of the retention bolt to line up with the retention groove.

Dumb question, but I assume that the chain is long enough to allow the shaft to fully extend.

Splines are never an issue for me. I just keep turning the shaft until all lines up. I just can't get the **** end of the PTO drive to Snap-on the tractor PTO. I'll let you know how my $370 Quick Connect works out. I figure if I'm going to keep this for a long time why not invest the money in the quick connect.

Used the betstco 4" chipper for about 4 hours now. This thing eats anything up to 4" and the tractor never bogs or misses a heart beat. Like nothing is connected to it. I was alittle apprehensive about the 4" but I could not be happier.

one of the things I did to make hooking up PTO implements was taking that darn cover off the tractor! Bad shoulders and arthritis in my hands/wrists made it just about impossible to do with that thing on there. It's now sitting on the shelf in the shed, and hooking/unhooking is a piece of cake!
