Rest in Peace
If I remember correctly the newspaper interviewed people who were going out of their way to buy pure gas and they said they got up to 20% better gas mileage with pure gas than with E10.
If I understand it correctly it is pretty hard to know exactly what percent ethanol you get in the "may contain up to 10% ethanol" blend which may effect your milage.
Chris
OK, so I misunderstood your earlier comment. And now you made me curious. Of course, as you said, I don't really know exactly what percentage of ethanol I'm getting; just up to 10%. And I also don't know just when they started the ethanol.
But just for the fun of it, I went to my records that showed my highest overall average MPG on the Windstar was the fuel bought up to April '07. Comparing that to my mileage for this calendar year (2008), I was getting 10.025% better mileage in the past.
Doing the same thing for the Ranger, my highest overall average was the fuel bouht up to July '06. And comparing that to this year (2008), I was getting 12.131% better mileage in the past.
Those number are about what I expected. But of course not knowing the date the E10 started nor what percent ethanol I'm actually getting, I can't really vouch for the accuracy of my conclusions.
