Maybe because half the population of Norman, Oklahoma was in Dallas yesterday for the Cotton Bowl (Go Horns!), but my stepson called last night and told us that regular unleaded was selling for $2.49 per gallon in Norman yesterday. If it gets much cheaper, I may have to load a tank in my pickup and head north for a visit. :)

Jim, I'm not a football fan, rarely watch a game, and didn't care who won, but I watched the Texas/OU game yesterday for lack of anything better to do.:D Then it was nearly 4 p.m. when I went up to Denton; just wasn't thinking, but I shouldn't have been surprised at the traffic jam on northbound I-35E. There sure was a mess of folks headed north back to Oklahoma.:D Fortunately, the traffic didn't bother me because I just stayed on the service road.:)

Bird, when I was in high school, I worked at a gas station in Denton on the northbound side of 35E near hwy 377. We didn't get much business for the southbound OU fans, but after the game was over, we either had jubilant fans or dejected and angry fans headed back to Oklahoma. I was not smart enough in those days to realize that the happy fans spent a lot more money if you treated them right. I always wanted to rub it in when they lost. My boss would have appreciated the extra sales if I'd have been nice to them I'm sure.

If the plants are where the oil came from and not the dinasours, then this process should never have stoped. It should be going on to this day. We still have plants and plants are still dying and decaying into the planet. Of course, how a plant goes from dying and drying up to dust, to become oil is really gonna be tough for me to comprehend. Somehow I think that if we took one billion tons of plant matter and set it out in the desert on a very large plastic tarp, we wouldn't get one tiny spec of oil or an oil byproduct.
Eddie

Speaking of making oil from plants...CSIRO and Monash University have developed a chemical process that turns green waste into a stable bio-crude oil, from which you can refine gasoline and diesel Bio-crude turns cheap waste into valuable fuel (Media Release)

Its a new chemical process, as the natural process is very very slow. Reaction rate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I filled up Friday for $3.05 Today it is down to $2.89. I'm sure it has happened before but I can't remember a week of the price going down daily and sometimes twice a day. I'm sure it means something but I don't know what.

Tally is there any reason that gas goes down in October?

Yes, supply and demand. During the summer months, millions of people go on vacation in their vehicles using way more than their usual amount of gas. This increased demand with no increase in supply allows the refineries to charge more for their product. After summer ends and the vacations stop, there is less demand for gas and the tank farms start getting full and the price must be reduced to sell more gas or the refineries have to shut down.

Thank goodness. I was afraid the answer was going to be political. Something about the bums not wanting to be thrown out in November. :D:D:D

I keep track of our Suburban's "diet" and the last time I fed it on Sept. 22nd, 2008, gas was $3.89. I filled it yesterday, Oct. 12th, 2008 for $2.79. We drove our Impala to Chicago for the day and the cheapest we saw it along the way was $3.03, with most places still over $3.50 along I94/I294. My wife kept commenting about how much the price can fluctuate in a 95 mile stretch of road. Pretty crazy swings in price.

On road diesel was $3.99 on Thursday. Today $3.89. Regular was 3.69. We still have fuel shortage from Ike and Gustuv. Hard to believe that Ike was only a month ago. The pipe line should be at capacity at our terminals this week and once the stations can keep fuel in the tanks I expect that our prices will start to drop fast.

Good think we have been too busy to get the 285 gallon tank. Would have to fill it up with $4.00 a gallon fuel and wait a month and get it for $3. :D

Later,
Dan
