Y'all Been Checkin' Lumber Prices?

Do you have to use grade stamped lumber for building or is this only a California requirement?

Dad had a friend that milled and gave it up... saying without a grade stamp it wasn't usable for construction...

^^^ No inspectors or codes for me. Nobody ever looks at anything a homeowner does on their own property. But to be honest, so of the Oak I got from the mill guy down the road isn't all that great. Most of it is fine, but some has cracks, splits and bug holes. It doesn't matter for what I'm doing, but others might reject a lot of it. He knows what I'm doing and what I can pay, so he may be selling me lesser quality boards than he would somebody else.

I could have understood a temporary spike while mills and transportation adjusted to restrictions on workers or supply demand. But we're going on six months now and no end in sight. Maybe winter will slow some of the building in some areas and cut demand a bit.

I’m not seeing a noticeable lack of supply. I can get most anything. I am only seeing insanely high prices.

Just the beginnings of HYPER-INFLATION before the dollar crashes.

Even the FREE CList stuff is far and fewer than a year ago.

Food prices are nearly double over later 2019. No, not bread and milk ... MEAT, CHEESE, and CANNED GOODS.

Even SCRAP lumber of pallets in fair condition are no longer free anymore. Places are using these themselves or charging now.

IMO there is more demand on the retail side (due to people stuck at home doing projects as well as damage from those who rioted at the protests last year) and suppliers got behind at the beginning but due to increases demand, people being out sick and inefficiencies caused by COVID they haven't been able to catch up.
