I have sawn over 100Mbf (100,000) this year so I am still hitting the numbers. Crap, I need to think about retiring. :duh:

May 15, I paid:

2 x 8 x 12; $6.82

2 x 6 x 10; $5.69


Today they show:

2 x 8 x 12; $15.69

2 x 6 x 10; $13.42

Down a bit more today:

2 x 8 x 12: 10.65

2 x 6 x 10: 11.75


What I'm not sure of is if the quality is changing.

I started tracking lumber futures and it gives a pretty good indication of what's been happening. The symbol is "LBS=F". Thing is, I believe the index is for lumber ordered wholesale for future delivery, so it's not exactly a retail indicator. But at least the past history is interesting to watch.

I have a couple of projects waiting on lumber prices to go down but it looks like prices are not going down anytime soon.

I bought some 1” x 6”s a couple of weeks ago and it hurt my feelings.

I have been cutting 2x6s for my log supplier. I was curious on the prices and called Lowes. 10 footers are $10.22 14 footers are $15.83 and 16 footers are $17.77. This stack of 2x6s is $1459.50 without tax.
Also got a walk up customer that is a neighbor of my log supplier. He wants me to cut framing lumber for his house. I told him to come back late spring.

Yep, they are all ripping us off. Lumber, food, etc. Using this covid as an excuse to raise prices and others using it to be just plain lazy. While the rest of us keep going to work to pay for this mess.

Im giving customers estimates on barns and garages and they are freaking out.
General public has no idea a 2x4 is triple what it was and treated is up like 400% before Covid, steel is way up and fuel is climbing.
Only homes being built are for the Uber rich 1.5 million and up around here.
