For those selling an existing home the increased price they receive due to recent demand can help offset the increase cost of a new construction replacement.

When lumber went up before local tract builder incorporated steel framing.

My house is steel stud framing. Commercial contractor built it for himself.

Just asking out of curiosity...

Who do you think is getting rich on the major increase in the price of lumber?

....Do you think everybody along the chain from raw timber to retail sale is incrementally marking up to cover their costs, which is having a compound effect on the final cost? (Essentially inflation...)

....Or do you believe it is only one entity along the chain that has caused the substantial increase in lumber price? (Price gouging...)

Who is raking in the big profits?

One entity getting rich of increased prices is the governments that tax them.
If a state taxes goods at 6% rate, $20,000 in lumber creates $1200 in sales tax.
If the lumber triples to $60,000, the state makes $3600.
The state hasn’t exerted any additional effort or spent little, if any money to get the $3600 versus the $1200.

Not at the stump $ in my area. I've been watching it as I have pines at market age. The local mills aren't able to run wide open due to some labor shortages thanks to COVID. Sawmills also own a lot of timberland here too. Proximity to mills is a major stump price driver.

In our area the person who owns the tree is seeing very little more for his tree, the guy who cuts the tree is getting no more, and according to two folks who own building supply businesses they are marking lumber up the same percentage.

I am just a redneck but it looks like the corporate mills are taking advantage of the situation to gouge the consumer.

Maybe I should, and here's proof! lol

I sold thousands and thousands of bd. ft. of lumber to a guy, hauling it with my tractor to his warehouse, and stickering it for him, under cover,

It was a huge job for me, as I logged all the logs too,

and pulled them to the mill site,
