Bob,

I'm really disappointed to hear such sour grapes from you over this. I don't think any true, unbiased baseball people would believe that the Yankees are a better team right now.

Without regard to that, it was a great series in which each team played well. We have a long way to go with an incredibly depleted pitching staff to win the World Series.

In the NL Championship Series I sincerely believe the Cardinals are a better team but I also believe Houston is a 'hotter' team right now. Theirs has almost been a forgotten series with all of the attention this Boston-NY series has received. Those are two very good baseball teams there.

I'll continue to cheer for my beloved Red Sox. If Red Sox Nation is finally rewarded with a World Series I'll be elated. If the trophy ends up in the National League I'm sure I'll be disappointed but equally sure I won't be bemoaning our loss as seems to be the way of Yankee fans such as yourself today.

That's what's nice about contests that have objective criteria for winning and losing. The team that has more runs at the end of the game is, by definition, the better team. If the criterium was most games won in the season, the Yankees would be the better team, but it's not. Best of seven series. Boston won more games. Just rejoined the ratrace today. I just KNEW Boston would win. Now for the World Series. I never care who wins as long as it's the American League, unless it's Toronto there. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Yep, the best team really did win, and without the high priced players NY has, in other words, the Sox did the best they could with what they got. Countries don't have teams (unlike soccer). The top team from the American and National Leagues of Major League baseball play in the World Series.

But if you are concerned with countries -- only cities in Canada and the USA have Major League teams. I think there are 1 or 2 Aussies playing at the Major League level.
