You are right, but I get the picture. I'll make a point of doing that tonight. Hopefully it's clogged and somebody else tried the same mechanic in a can crud that I'm trying.

Anyone ever use Calgonite dishwashing soap as a flush?

Never used Calgonite, but SAAB said to use Shout when converting from extended life coolant to regular.

Jackbax,

I wonder if Shout would work with Chevy too? I have a '96 pickup that uses Dexcool. There are horror stories out there about the old Dexcool eating up stuff. I think it is true because mine is starting to develope coolant leaks everywhere and have been told by a mechanic to change it out to regular antifreeze.

I removed the radiator last night after is steeped for a couple of days with the cleaner in it. The drained water was clear. I put the garden hose in the outlet and turned the water on full. The water came out the inlet very quickly with no signs of restriction. There was no color or signs of debris in the water-it was clear. I have a oversized garden hose so the radiator was flowing at least 15 gpm. I reinstalled the radiator and filled with straight water. Although it took a bit longer to over heat, flushing the radiator has not curred the problem. The engine definetly feels hot, so I'm thinking the sensor is reading correctly. Any more suggestions?

It would seem to be either a water flow or an air flow issue. I assume that you have checked the fan belt tension to make sure the belt is not slipping and that the cooling fins of the radiator are not stopped up. The only other thing I can may be more serious such as oil pump not pumping sufficient pressure to properly lubricate engine.

It is a simple and not very expensive job to put gauges on the engine. That would give you more accurate data about temperatures and oil pressure, which might help with your troubleshooting.

I'm certain that it's not a airflow issue. The fins are all clear. I made sure of that last night when I had the radiator out. The fan is definetly pulling air. I had the hood open last night when I started it and was suprised by the air blast.

I'm going to add a temp gauge. Jegs has a mechanical one that can be installed right on the engine.

Good idea on the gauges. I did that a couple months after buying my tractor. My temp light starting coming on after about 5 minutes of operation. I knew the tractor was not overheating. It is not difficult to do. Tractor runs about 90 degrees under heavy load wiht brush hog and cooler with box blade

I forgot we switched from a 1500 to an 1110 in the same thread). Does it have a waterpump? we may be talking about a whole different problem. If it has a pump, is it pumping? I would find out for sure about the waterpump and if not a waterpump problem, would do the backflush. It could still be a blockage in the block, (so to speak).
