Actually #5 is the cover on the right side for the screen. #8 is where the closed end of the screen sits inside the case. The picture shows the view from the back side of the tractor. The two holes in the case that nearest to you is the setup for the PTO shafts.
Have you pulled the axle seal to see how the bearing is held in? Might it help to spray PB Blaster on the shaft possibly helping the bearing slide on it?
What about the external brake linkage and cam? Anything at that point stopping the removal?
It's evident I don't know how to take the thing apart but sometimes questions can help bring an answer. Do you think it is possible that the bolts holding the final reduction gear on will have to be removed so the axle can slide out. #37 here. Yanmar Tractor Parts: REAR AXLE INT (G)
There you go, asking questions I can't answer. I know on some Yanmars the pto assembly can be removed for access but looking at the green drawing that doesn't appear to be possible. Might be the lift assembly may have to come off the top to access. Again, realize I'm purely in a speculation mode here, certainly no first hand knowledge.
There should be a plate on the bottom of the axle housing. 8 bolts I think and it will come down. You'll be able to look in and see the bolt then. Be sure to use thread sealer on the studs if they come out.
Thanks again guys.
Your speculation is 500% better then my knowledge.
Another problem is where the heck do I put my jackstand.
I have it under the rear end. The tractors rear end.
Here's what I did with mine. Notice I left the jack under the forward part of the transmission just to be safe. Pay no attention to the removable brake cover in the picture.
Are you going to be replacing the bearings and seals for the axle while you have it torn down?
Nice clean tractor, D
Is the bottom of the case still accessable with the jack in that position?
I need to reposition all my stands.
Thanks
I have to hobble back and forth from the garage to the house to see the posts.
