If you look close the number four and five are all different sizes. Would Len Schaefer or Gary Jamieson know or have one of these on the shelf?

Still don't technically know what 4 and 5 are but they belong there. The shaft came out rather easily as soon as I figured out a way to get some mustard on it. It came out by itself. So the only parts I need to fix this baby are the brake axle shaft, seal and collar.

The silver part, the bearing and 4 and 5 are all either a part of, or mounted to, the main gear ring. There is another one on the other side for that one. All is good, now just have to find the part. I am not going to spend a lot of time searching for a better price than Aaron as he did help me get it solved....but I would buy one somewhere else so he would still have an intact rear end to sell.

The only thing I have left to do is get my buddies snap ring pliers. Mine were not good enough to get that snap ring off to take the bigger part of the axle shaft out of the housing. Took the collar and seal off, then there is a snap ring holding it in.

I really appreciate the help....while it is drained and apart I thought I would fix my 4wd problem from a few years ago....I'll revive that thread later tonight. Might as well get it all fixed up now while I'm in fixing mood. lol

What the heck are #4, and 5? Could #4 be a screwed-in collar that needs a unique wrench to remove?

Just looking at it I imagine #5 is several segments that tighten down on the splined shaft when #4 is threaded in, similar to a drillpress chuck. Is that anywhere near possible??

#4 is the cogs on the back of the ring gear, #X5 on the scan. #5 is the cogs on the back of the differential gear, #9 on the drawing. This is what the differential slider slides into.

Kfin, the internal gear that is splined on is #9 on the drawing. I don't think it would even be tight on the splines. Just basing this off an experience with an FX24D. Well you responded before I got posted. Your making good headway.

You are awesome at finding the correct drawings... mucho appreciated. There was a black collar/cogs still on the big piece of axle stub...there is also the #5 which is still in/attached to the ring gear. Every other one is offset like they slide together. I didn't get a decent picture of that black piece that slid off the big piece of axle..might take one tomorrow and post it. Probably posting WAY too many pictures but I would have loved it if this thread already existed before I started it. There were bits and pieces that I found with multiple hours of searching, you guys have been a tremendous asset as well as Aaron at Hoye. Probably should have paid somebody to do it, but I can barely afford the part to fix it much less the labor! Boys and their toys.

You been on vacation Normde, beginning to get worried about you. :D

Just sitting back, watching the train wreck:confused:. Could still have clutch/TO bearing problems.

This could have been a train wreck Normde! And still may be but I honestly think I can get it back together. And yes, once I get it back together, get the 4wd fixed and my garden tilled I am going to put it back in the shed, split it and fix the clutch up. I'm sure that one could be interesting too. lol

@kfin-

I'm sitting back watching this as well, but I don't see it as a train wreck. You're doing a great job and those of us that visit this form mostly because we don't know what we're doing really appreciate you logging your steps AND all the great input you've been getting from the Yanmar Gurus. Keep up the good fight!

Question on gaskets when I start putting this back together. In looking at the parts manual I see them listed for some parts and not others. My question is which ones should I actually buy replacement gaskets for? Which ones can you get away with using a silicone type gasket? And which ones just don't need one.

Both brake covers
PTO cover
PTO Hinge cover (small one just above the PTO shaft)
Hydro unit (I think this is the name, it is the one on top of the PTO housing)
drop box (there was not one there ever, but is an oring)

I would put gaskets on the ones you listed other than I don't know what the PTO hinge cover is.
And yes, o-ring only on drop box.

If your gasket didn't tear up you could reuse them with a small amound of silicone. If they are broken I would go with new. :2cents:
