Hi WYdirt-

Welcome to the YM240 club. That's a beautiful machine. I'm sure she'll give you many years of good service. I was also concerned about the stability of these machines on even slight slopes. I used windshield washer fluid as ballast in the tires. Where I am -20F fluid was good enough to prevent it from ever freezing. I think I paid about $1.50/gal and used about 60 gals total (in my ag tires). It made a world of difference. She feels planted on the ground now. Wider would still be nice, but this was a pretty easy and inexpensive way to add weight and stability.

I've got a 5' box blade that it handles ok as long as I don't overload it. I used to run a very heavy 5' brush hog but that was really pushing it's limits so I've backed off on using that.

I believe all these models have the thermostat feature (a method for heating the block before starting that uses a small amount of diesel and an electric element to vaporize the fuel). I'm not sure mine works correctly. I find starting below 40F difficult even when I try using that. I don't use mine for snow removal, but I do have a block heater that makes cold starting MUCH easier. If you'll be using Yoshi for that, and don't have a warm place to keep her, a block heater would be a really nice addition.

Your's is one of the prettiest ones I've seen on here. Certainly much prettier than mine...

Thank You!

I have looked at adding windshield washer fluid as well, might have to go that route.

Yoshi is now safe and sound in the garage, but I did check that the thermostart is functional. It is getting power, but NOT when the key is turned all the way back to the TS, it gets the power about halfway between off & TS (maybe that could be what's wrong with yours?)

You have a nice looking 240d as well, everybody but me has a loader..... :(

No loader on my Yanmar and I believe Clemsonfor for a good example doesn't have one that I know of. When I spoke of the JD. I just remembered when the last time I put the bucket on. It was almost Spring of last yr.. It was wet and without 4wd. It didn't take much to almost get it stuck. Which I had to bucket out the rear tires right off the bat!! Try the rear scoop and then see if you think your need one. For me with Turfs and 2wd. even if they gave me a loader I won't do it. Here's a pic. of the JD. it keeps up with BH & FM 35 acres...

Wolly, did you fill the tires yourself or just take the fluid to someone else and let them put it in?

@TNhobbyfarmer

I did it myself. Can't remember if I posted a thread about that or not. Pretty simple really- go buy 60 gallons of WWF. Get a 5gal bucket and drill 1/2" hole in bottom. Buy a tire valve stem-to-garden hose fitting from Tractor Supply. Park near a tree. Jack tractor up (just enough to get the weight off rear end), hang bucket in tree about head height, run hose from bottom of bucket into small pump head that connects to electric drill, fill bucket, run drill, when bucket nearly empty release pressure from tire using purge valve on stem-to-garden hose fitting, refill bucket, repeat.

I know you asked him but his way seems a bit more convoluted than mine. I bought the same garden hose attachment to fill tires. But I took a 15 gallon spot sprayer and a few brass fitting and adapted the 3/8 hose up to a garden hose. Filled the tank with the WWF fluid and turned it on and let it just pump it in. Took maybe 5 to 10 mins a tire. I stopped a few times to bleed the air off the tire and then kept going. I thought about gravity but would take forever.

And Carey is right no loader here either. I have a $90 boom pole from TSC for lifting things and a dirt scoop for dirt if needed.i

I just noticed that TSC is a click able link? I did not intend that to be nor did I make it one, so I have no idea where that may take you?

Thanks woolyacres and clemsonfor for the information regarding filling tires. Again WYdirt, not trying to butt into your thread. Just seemed like a good opportunity to get a question answered.

I have a thread where I posted pics and a description of the process.

Here is a post where I discuss it. I did not post pics I see? I usually do, and I thought I took some? Maybe that was in the time posting pics was a pain, I just remember there was a period of time for me that posting pics was a bit painfull?
