It is disconnected and no , I don’t see any difference. Not in starting/running or in blowby

I feel confident thermostat was working, in my thermostat post I described it was SMOKING after I shut off engine and left key on accidentally. Good thing I did since it showed itself. I ohmed thermostart after that and it shows resistance so not burned open . I haven’t put power back on it since then.

Is that video before, or after, oil change? (Oil already black?) If so, I would run more, with more "engine cleaner". some have even added ATF, (super cleaner) to oil. Never tried/needed it, but would not hesitate, then change oil again.

Videos were after oil change. Yes BLACK ! But there is a lot of residual old oil in there. And videos were 20 30 min after oil change once it warmed up.

I'm confused. Does the first sentence say the Thermostart is hot any time the key is On?

It should be hot only when the key is twisted left (or button pushed on the earliest models), and may be hot while the starter is cranking (depending if the jumper behind the switch is set that way).

Never hot while the key is in Run or Off position.

I see there is now another thread on this topic. It makes more sense to continue the discussion there.

Sorry didn’t mean to cross issues in posts. Only reason I mentioned thermostart was that it was on in run and if it had been the whole time before I got it, that maybe that was a cause for blowby to have developed.

The Thermostart Tech. just warms the air and intake up for cold starts. If it
was left on even in run mode It didn't stand a chance.....

Yes that would likely burn out the element pretty soon. But when the element is hot that also opens a orifice to dribble diesel into the intake. That diesel could be getting past the rings unburned during the compression stroke before the injectors fire off.

I doubt it would get hot enough to open the orifice. Mine takes quite a few minutes to open. I do know this from what I have to do to get mine to open up and let me get fuel to the element. And I have no reservoir since I rarely use it. I do but not often. And being Red Hot and the element itself on for periods of time was my thinking. Still could be totally wrong...........
