Those metal shavings are likely throughout the engine . you'll need to clean out the metal that hides in those small oil passages. the best way to clean is to have machine shop put the block in a block cleaner. Oil pump gears are probably eaten up , cam bearings ,etc, Usually if you spin a crank bearing something has to be done with that crank journal . Like mark said. Do it right the 1 st time around.I think danny posted somewhere that he has a yanmar in his shop at this time with a spun bearing.You have alot of work ahead , good luck

Well the bad news is in, I've pulled the head off and dropped the pan off the block. I should have noticed the fine metal on top of the head when I adjusted the valves, didn't see it didnt want too I suppose. The top of the front piston #2 has the the imprint of the head on it. rod bearing spun its all most gone. The crank shaft journel looks bad too. I dont know what should be done next, If it were a pickup or a car it would be a complete tear down and rebuid as the metal of the bearing has run through the motor. One good thing the cyclinder liners look good. I dont know why the bearing failed.What do you guys think I should do next? Tear the motor down the rest of the way pull the crank see if it can be turned? Can you get over sized bearings? Thanks for the input.

Luckily you are talking about a 25- 30 year old, $2500 tractor and not a $50,000 Mercedes. No need to spend $1,500-$2,000 on engine repairs. If it were mine, and I found no Crankshaft damage, (transferred bearing material can be removed with pool acid and steel wool), I would check both pistons and rods for damage, and order/replace parts as necessary, otherwise, replace rings and rod bearings and get on with my life.

only My opinion but, If you'er going to keep the tractor for a long time I would do it right the 1 st. time around and not worry about cost. If you'er only going to keep the tractor for short term go the cheap route on repairs or, talk to a dealer about a trade in . If you are in need of a little larger or newer tractor , now may be the time to shop.

It would be a hard decission for me.. If you only use it 50-100 hrs a yr u may just want to get it going again and hope for the best.....

What about nutralizing the acid so it dos'nt etch the journel? baking soda and water?

A buddy of mine said that as bearings wear away oil pressure drops is that what you mean? I wonder if the motor has been going since I got it. Some of the first posts were How I thought the thing Knocked(pounded!) Thats the yannie hammer or some thing to that effect. Well in any case thats been 3 years or so and I have got a lot of work out of it that way, hinde site is 20/20 my fore site not all ways so good.

Well the the report is in from the machine shop on the crank. The crank is worn out of spec. 45 thousands to be exact. I think the bearings are only available 10 and 30 thousands over. I don't think I want to put a $500 crank in a worn out motor, if I was to do that it would all have to be new to do it right. I just don't understand the cost of the parts. $1500-$2000 to rebuild a 2 lunger? Maybe I can part the tractor out. or find a good used motor.Maybe another used tractor. You guys got any thoughts.

Several dealers who post here have boneyards. If nobody offers an engine, then watch ebay for a 2Q series sailboat engine. I think it's the same basic engine as the 2TR20A-X in a YM2000, but with different manifolds and other external parts. I've seen some go through cheap that hadn't run for a while.

Verify that I am correct before spending any money!
