I know I'm way late on diagnosis(for some reason I missed this thread earlier).. But, the key to the diag was vapor puffing out of the crankcase or oil fill when it was running.. Absoloutely had to be compression, thats what caused the pressure in the crankcase.. The freind that suggested the air test through the injector hole had it right. Blowing air in the combustion chamber(you may need to rotate the crank to close the valves, if possible) then listening at the exhaust pipe, intake, and oil fill(or breather) will tell you where your compression is leaking..
Sorry not to add this earlier, but maybe it will help future diag for others

.. Why no one else mentioned it, well its easy to miss something on a thread, I'm sure many here would have had the same recomendation.. This place is a GREAT resourse for Yanmars..
Back to your problem Gary.. I would try contacting the dealers on here directly(though they have probably seen the thread and cant help) to see if they might have a used crank laying around or leads on one(maybe a "recon" dealer that cant rebuild a particular tractor

).. Then maybe as a last resort, if I couldnt find a used one anywhere(after lots of looking) I would have it welded and turned.. It should be fine... Its alot of work, but bottom line is you have to decide what the tractor is worth to you, how much do you want to spend? If you can live without it for a while and that engine on E-bay doesnt pan out, just keep looking.. Good luck..
