Yanmar YM2000 Fuel Pressure/ hard starting

Indi.. take an injector out & hold it side x side.. you don't want anything sticking to far into the cylinder.. & the clamp has to hold it tight or it'll leak compression & you'll get a bad reading.. BUT.. for 23.00 you cant go wrong.. that's CHEAP..
..anything over 300psi will light-off a diesel engine.. good luck.

I’ll go ahead and order their adapter today.

That will also give me good reason to pull the injectors out.

Those fittings are diesel compression test fittings but meant for different diesel truck engines, not necessarily a small tractor.

As far as it turning too slow, not sure how to get it to turn much faster. Battery was new in July, and is 660CCA. I also have coupled that with my jump box and having one or both on there doesn’t really make any change in rotational Speed.

Your video's would indicate it is turning fast enough to crank. When these little diesels are right they will crank on the first or second turn over.

That is both comforting and not at the same time.
Good to know it IS fast enough, but not that it obviously has a problem.
I really hope I didn’t just waste my money on buying this tractor.
Yanmar’s came highly recommended by several people I had talked to before making the purchase.

They are tough and simple little tractors. Any brand can have problems. Looking back over this thread from the beginning indicates it did crank and run when you got it so that would lead me to believe something in your fuel tank/lines/filter, etc. is causing your problems. When it did crank and run was it without much smoke or blow by?

That's not normal.

Warm weather and Thermostart used, these will fire and run on the first complete intake/compression cycle.

Worse than ideal conditions, maybe a few stumbling strokes (keep the starter assisting it for a few seconds).

Here's an example, a sound file I posted long ago. Temperature chilly, 50 degrees. It fires and runs on the third TDC.

i was thinking the same thing when i read that. YOur basically warming the engine up to fire if your having to crank for 30 seconds!! sounds like bad compression.

It didn稚 have a whole lot of black smoke unless I went to a higher gear and gave it some fuel via the foot pedal or throttle lever. Then some black smoke, wouldn稚 call it overly excessive though.

As far as blowby out the crank case, seems like quite a bit of white vapor and oil droplets come out.
I do know that the oil is probably 2 years old though according to what the PO told me when I bought it.

I do fear a compression issue, probably along with a fuel issue.

Pulling the injectors on these isn't simple. I would verify everything else before doing the compression test.

Noted,
I ordered the adapter from HOYE this morning along with a new fuel filter bowl and o-ring. The current one shows signs of aging, weakness and small fractures in it, so I figure it will be good to change that anyway along with a new filter and fresh fuel.

The fuel I drained out last night was almost a see through tan/brownish color. The PO said it has been in there since before Spring.
There looks like possibly some rust in the tank, but line is clear. I will be mopping up the excess fuel and using the shop vac to hopefully suck up any junk.

Diesel should be clear (or tinted red if it is untaxed offroad fuel). Tan color could be oil the PO added, or extremely old fuel. Good idea to replace it.

If the filter o-ring has cracks that might be where air is entering.

Shop vac to empty the fuel tank? Better hope the PO didn't add gasoline to the diesel to make it start easier. That could get real exciting! I wouldn't do that indoors.
