I'm poor not on welfare or any other assistance but don't pay taxes. The IRS sends me a check every year for the tax credits..... No fed tax withheld.
NOTE I own my corporation and we've put every spare cent back into the business for years and opt to only take enough $$$ to survive.

Without tax credits, PILOT, grants and interest free loans, wind and solar would be not starters!

Too cute to pass. It's from 14 years ago but mechanically the same as in any 2023 Toyota Hybrid on the market today. I never knew anything about Toyota before buying the 103K mile 2015 Toyota Prius C a couple weeks ago to learn about the brand and their hybrid technology. Its EV range is at best is only 1 mile but its 9.5 gallon gas tank can add 475 miles of range. I am beyond impressed and it makes a great stable mate to our 2016 Nissan Leaf SL purchased in 2019 that now has the new 2020 40 kWh 150 mile battery thanks to Nissan.

While I would like a long range red Tesla Model Y with 7 seat white interior. For a 1/3 of the price I have hacked the wife and I into newer generation vehicles that have no belts, alternators or starters under the hood.

The ICE vehicles of today would be fine for the wife and I but my hack appeals to my geek gearhead streak and lets the kids see and experience newer transportation coming down the pike.

There are always outliers as in the gas shortages in the 70’s

No tax credits but some very innovative people building electric, installing solar…

There is a farm not far from grandparents in the news a lot because farmer rigged a swimming pool cover over the manure pit and tapped the gas to power the farm and took car alternators adding fan blades to charge batteries and making a small peloton wheel for the creek…

In fact, I didn't realize that, and don't see the distinction. Industries are owned by individuals, the prices of products brought to market by industries are paid by individuals. When you pay less for a pound of beef because feed subsidies make it easier to produce beef than vegetables, that's a benefit to you as an individual. My neighbor drives a sweet truck that was more than paid for by Ag subsidies, but hey, agriculture is an *industry*, Eh?

I pay my taxes at an effective rate of 34% and don't complain (much). I know that on the average, I provide much more of my income to the government than most Americans, so it's likely I'm subsidizing others quite a bit more than they subsidize me. That's why it bugs me when someone takes offense at the fact that *gasp* I actually receive a government benefit once in a while.

Good post.

Subsidies are only a 4 letter word when they don’t align with a benefit an individual chooses to reap the rewards from.

Care to elaborate? What kind of business do you run that not only pays nothing in taxes, but gets a "credit" from Uncle Sam? Sounds like quite the racket.

While you couldn't pay me enough to own another toyota product, I agree that hybrids make a lot more sense than a straight EV.
