....

True = Not asking my neighbors to subsidize the car or the solar panels as is the common practice today.
When we bought our property, we got into a government program to have some of it reforested. 2150 trees bought, planted and side-sprayed by a professional forester. The program reimbursed us 75%. Total cost to us was $265.00. Today, there's 4 acres of 50'+ trees, nice and tall and straight. Thousands of them.

My neighbors paid for it.

I'm not giving it back.

Imminent fear of starvation or violence? Perhaps you should expound on that.
I've expounded far too much already, given that this is a tractor forum. <grin>

I'll just reiterate that in response to your first post, it is true that, without any tax credits, you can save significant money by buying a couple of used EVs and putting solar panels on your barn. The payback period for solar panels works out to just under 12 years, followed by 18 years of free energy.

Those are facts. Everything else is debatable.

You do realize that I subsidized your panels as well? What are you subsidizing for me?
Didn't your car get taxpayer subsidies as well?
Not all panels are subsidized.... mine were in boxes bought in 2008 and came with the house purchase and I quicky set to get them up and producing.

I could take the same number of modern panels and more than double my production in the same footprint...

Since installed I always produce more than I use...

You paid for it as well. Called income tax.

Uh, no...
I can say that my solar array was financed with a withdrawal from a balanced fund in Oct of 2019.
With a roughly $2000 annual electric bill that is not here anymore; the rate of return is better than that money would have earned. The market fluctuations, kilowatt hour and other rate changes are in play here too.
The stock market and monthly utilities are volatile things. (The solar will return enough to pay for itself within the next 2 years). Then the power will be free, excluding maintenance.
Everyone's milage may vary but I can agree with nickfrank here.

regards,
R

I'd be more than willing to cover our large hip roof barn (100 x 100 feet, 3 stories) with solar panels in a minute so long as one of you solar junkies pays for it. I have no issue with that at all. :p

I have a decent sized detached garage that would be a good spot for panels and I had it quoted, but I'm not asking others to help pay for it and the ROI isn't there for me to foot the whole bill and is why the gubmint (US) subsidizes them.

im not knocking others for taking advantage of the program but just realize that it's your neighbors who are helping pay for them.

Wouldn't it be the same when utilities provide incentives and rebates?

Currently electric utility is offering a rebate for using less electricity during projected shortfalls in addition to existing tiered rates for peek and off peek.

Water company gives out hose nozzle and low flow shower heads and toilet rebates.

Another program give away was a single LED to each residential customer...

When you can't force people to do something or it takes too long incentives and surcharges are means of controlling the masses.

Some neighborhoods are getting free private sewer lateral replacements because aging mains overflow into the creek...

With some mains 30+ feet under the road it was determined to be cost effective to replace laterals at the same time the roads were being dug up... every single one of my neighbors got free private lateral replacement and I didn't... When I bought I knew the old Orangeburg pipe was in bad shape so I said the right thing is to pay to replace to the tune of $3300... being pro active cost me but I can't predict the future.

I am..... All the blowing on here extolling the virtues, I want to experience that myself but, as a good citizen of this country, I want someone else to pay for it so I can reap the rewards. it's the American way today...
