Looking at the green engine I think someone didn't like the color and made it red.:D

Red is correct for a second-series YM2000. Although it should have a white grille. And 2TR20A is the second-series engine.

Early YM2000 was green. But that version had totally different sheet metal - headlights outside, alongside the grille, and the hood hinged at the back like an automobile. Engine was 2TR20 (no 'A'). I don't think there's much difference - dipstick on the opposite side, stuff like that. But you need to specify Early or Late on a parts order.

I think the engine and chassis were your color of green on all Japan-market Yanmars in the YM era.

Don't be misled by my green YM240. US Yanmars didn't switch the sheet metal green to red at the same time as their Japan-market twins. YM240 Late retained the Early color scheme.

I was just looking at your loader. I hope it has a frame that carries stress back to the rear axle. And preferably it should also be attached alongside the engine near the starter etc. Just bolts going upward to the bellhousing aren't enough support.

In fact the more I look, the stranger that 'VEAM' loader looks. I would tear that side to side hard hydraulic line off the first time I drove into a downed tree to move it. (BTDT on better-guarded hydraulic lines - don't ask! :D )

Thanks, I'm way more familiar with Yanmars in boat, John Deere and equipment than on actual Yanmars tractors.

Boats? This is the same engine as the 2Q marine engine - with obvious different manifolds etc.

As an aside, I found this brochure awhile ago.

One thing jumped out at me: a hand crank for manual starting! I have decided I shouldn't gripe anymore about dead batteries and the nuisance of a hard starting diesel. I would NOT want to hand crank one of these things...

The other thing I came away wondering (and the reason I found the brochure in the first place) was where the zinc anodes install. I was wanting to put them in, if they fit, to my tractor engines and reduce or eliminate the possibility of any corrosion in the radiators. I still think it is a good idea for me, since I run a high fraction of water in my cooling systems and worry about the radiators in that environment.

I have since found anode equipped radiator caps, but does anyone know if the 2QM anodes fit the tractor engines?

As an aside, I found this [2QM20/3QM30 Marine Engine] brochure awhile ago.
Wow! Thanks for posting that. I had never seen a hp curve chart for these. I see that the continuous hp is 20 hp @2600, 1 hour rating 22 hp @ 2800, and 15 minutes rating is 24 hp @ 3000. With a nearly flat torque curve, ie approximately same torque from 1400 rpm on up if I'm reading that chart correctly. That matches my impression of these engines, same torque at any rpm and the throttle is simply for how fast you want to go.

This is a great addition to the common body of knowledge here.

As for the crank starter - I wonder if the manual handle winds a spring?

Asking price is $2100, might get him down a couple bills but he ain't going far. Is it worth a roll of the dice or no?

looking at it i would jump on it even with a buggered motor in it. the engines originally were a horrid green but the sheetmetal is red. my 1500 does not have any reinforcing from the trans crossover to the rear end at all. thankfully it has not broken in half!

I just meant boats with Yanmar engines of all types, most of the ones Id seen were either tiny ones like these 2 cyl engines or the huge yachts with gigantic twin 800-900 h.p. engines.

Looked at it and a MF 234 with a loader, made an offer.
