YM2000 FEL

I am considering the addition of a FEL for my YM2000. I have concerns, however, since my tractor is only 2 wheel drive, and has the traditional farm-type front tires.

Has anyelse added a FEL to their 2 wheel drive YM2000? Are you happy with the results? What loader model did you install?

Another question, is the absence of an ROPS an even larger concern with the addition of an FEL?

Your input is appreciated as I am contemplating whether to add an FEL to my tractor or consider the purchase of another tractor with FEL. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I would recommend selling the 2000 and buying something with a FEL. The dealer I bought my 2000B from refused to put a loader on a 2wd tractor. You don't have a lot of hills in Melbourne, but with a full bucket you will lose traction, and if you happen to get on a hill you will run out of brakes. Also you will want shuttleshift as opposed to straight gear shift when you do a lot of back and forth work. Why spend $2500-$3000 for something you won't be happy with. Some guys have gone that route, but they put up with it rather than like it.

All we use to have is 2 wheel drive, and we used them. 4 wheel may be better if you are going to be useing it all the time, but most don't, so your tractor would probably do you just fine, its all in how much you use it for that. Even businesses used the 2 wheel drive in the old days, where I lived, that is all they had, and it worked. And we didn't even have or know what ROPS were either, fact is I still don't have one.

It's true all there used to be was 2 wheel drive. It's also true that there used to be only horses. The fact is the old 2WD tractor weighed twice to 3 times as much as a Yanmar. It's just plain unsafe unless the terrain is perfectly level. The absence of a ROPS doesn't bother me. I can tell where not to drive.

I remember just a very short time ago one of the dealers said he puts a fel on a lot of 2 wheel drives and he uses them and they work just fine.

I have found 4WD to be useful with a loader. Several times I have needed it when digging in sand and trying to back out of the hole with a load. The weight of the box blade on the rear was not enough for good traction.

Its a never ending debate, isn't it. I have a YM 1500 with a FEL loader with a 42" bucket. I try to understand the capabilities of the tractor and not exceed them. Most of all I try to be safe. Works for me.

I have a YM2000b that I use Exclusively with the FEL. It's a Bush Hog 1846QT. It's rated at somewhere around 770 pounds of lift. I move a lot of gravel, dirt, boulders, and especially firewood. I built a set of forks that very quickly clamp on to the bucket, so I can move 8' logs around the yard. Even with the moment extended 4 feet in front of the bucket, I can still load several logs on and tool around the yard. I also built a rear weight from a scraper blade frame.
The blade was broken off, so I slid half of a 55 gallon drum over the end and filled it with concrete. It looks like a wheelie bar on a dragster. My wheels are turned for a wider stance, and I always travel with the bucket low to the ground. When I'm digging I employ the traction lock, and do very well with it. As long as you are smarter than your tractor, and think about what you are doing, you shouldn't need the government to protect you from yourself. E.M.

I'm interested in the FEL you have on your YM2000B. Did you install it yourself? If so, how difficult was that process and how well did it fit the YM2000? What about the connections. How do you tap into the existing hydraulics?
