YM2000B Trans/Hydraulic Filter Screen Help

When I changed my Hyd. Filter I used JD.303. I had to replace my screen also. Wasn't near as bad in the pic. from Ca.. But it was beat up and bent up! looked as though at some point the screen was replaced. The more I looked at screen mentioned, Which I actually seen the Pic. Yrs. ago is the more I'm sure it was replaced looking at the seam. My old one had a huge Brass weld that sealed it together which I noticed. Replaced the Axle Seal also. I didn't pull the Collar. It had some small pitting which I just went over with emory cloth and that was 11yrs. ago. I get a drip or two that may come out after parking it. Which the wheel catches it or the Tire soaks it up. I still have the new collar but with my luck I would go replace it and then would start to leak even more. Haven't had to add any Hyd. fluid yet. My new screen looked and was made identical to the old one. No removable cap with one O-Ring on the triangular plate. Fredricks HS-4150

The vent was definitely clogged. It had a mixture of oil and dirt, which I have to assume is from mud daubers.

There is a 13 mm hex bolt adjacent to the vent that I had to remove in order to unthread the vent. It appears to open directly into the housing (pic below). What is its purpose?

That bolt is #39 in this Hoye diagram.
THREE_POINT_CONTROL: Yanmar Tractor Parts

The spring attached to that bolt pulls on the three point control linkage.

This is what I had to do to my spring and keep it snug up against the Plunger. My handle is down in the Lowest position and that is were I set my Spring. I would get a slow leak down. My lift will leak down when parked but stays in place running which isn't much of a problem. No FEL. JD. 55Hp. for 10Yrs. but not the little Yanmar 2000.

We are back together and running. I went ahead and manually cleaned out the sump as best I could using shop towels, put it back together, then took it out and moved around some 4x5 round bales.

It is clearly lifting the best since I've owned it.

The fluid appears clear for now. I'm going to watch it every couple of days and see if it starts to turn milky again. If it does, I'll do another complete change and filter clean.

Thanks to everyone for helping me understand my tractor much better. I appreciate it more than you know.

If you park your tractor where it is exposed to weather, even frequent blown in rain or whatever, consider a tarp to reduce the exposure on the top of the transmission. If you do this, try to create paths for water to drain away. One caution with the tarp, the protected environment is an attractive location for critters to make a home. And those critters can and do some damage to wiring especially. So keep the tarp as confined as possible and check under it frequently.
Frequently reported sources of water inlet are down the steering column into the steering box and around the transmission shift boot. It might be worth-wild to make or have made some small covers for these with possible snap together closures along one slit with draw string gathers around the shafts. Perhaps some magnets along the bottom to keep from being blown around.

I will take a closer look, but it's parked under a lean-to with one open face. That open face opens to the front of the tractor. I back it in and it is up against one of the side walls. When rain blows in, it normally only hits the suitcase weights, grill, and maybe an inch or two on the hood. I don't believe the roof leaks, but it's possible.

I suspect the initial source of water was from doing work earlier in the season in the rain, combined with a blocked vent.

That said, I will take a closer look to make sure I don't have water leaking through the roof of the lean-to.

Does the YM2000B have the mechanical fuel gauge in the fuel cap? Does anyone know if Yanmar still sells the rebuild kit for that fuel gauge?

I got a replacement for my cracked gauge lens via Ebay about five years ago. I don't remember if the gasket was included. That seller offered gauge assemblies complete, in various depths for other applications beyond just Yanmar. I think he offered custom depths made to order, too.

I also repainted the gauge needle because it had faded to near indistinguishable. Now I don't need to wipe dust off the lens to read the fuel level.

My Ym2000 stays outside under a carport also. Or a lean to I added for the tractor. I don't have to worry much about the cold so I've never had a problem. When it has sat during the winter months I'll actually go out and put the Charger on the battery. Still have the Org. battery Spalding put in it when I bought it in 08. That's almost crazy but true.
My first Hyd. fluid change, the fluid was about the same. White,Thick and milky at the bottom of the pan. Down right Nasty!! Rice Patty water written all over it!! I used a coat hanger and loosened up as much as I could. Then I actually poured the old fluid back in and drained it a couple times to try get it out. New Filter and Fluid and taking care of the slack in my 3pt. with the spring I mentioned, I haven't had to touch it in over 10 yrs.. Works exactly the same every time I use it. My 500Hr. last Hyd. change was amazingly clean when I changed it. Again just with Wally Worlds universal Hyd. fluid that met JD.303.....
