Does the YM2000B have the mechanical fuel gauge in the fuel cap? Does anyone know if Yanmar still sells the rebuild kit for that fuel gauge?
My 2000B has a fuel gauge in the instrument cluster.

I have no idea on the rebuild kit you are referencing.

Yanmars just earlier than yours had a fuel tank cap with integral gauge - with a float that extended down into the tank from the cap.
As the float rises it moves the gauge needle.
These tended to leak rainwater past the lens and down into your fuel.

Many lawn mowers over the years have also had a similar design gauge in the cap. I think all styles have tended to leak water into the fuel tank just from condensation if nothing else.

On a related topic, dies anyone know if when these Yanmars were shipped to the US if fluids were drained first?
I guess I have assumed they were drained due to weight factors in shipping. I ask because I often see reference to ‘rice patty’ hydraulic fluid. Mostly just curious!

I think those fluids are random at least for the VN 'rebuilts'. I doubt they bought new fluids for them but just recycled whatever came out of salvage tractors. Maybe they filtered it first ....

One reputable vendor here said he was brought a 'recon' Yanmar to repair and the front axle was full of mud, clearly nobody had flushed it before shipping it over. Another vendor said he suspected the 'antifreeze' was just green food coloring because no smell.

Related, the early 2000's first Jinma's from China had weird mystery fluids and the new owners always purged them. They got a lot of casting sand out. I suggested that the mystery fluids were simply China's solution to getting rid of the factory's hazardous wastes - export it! :D
