My 186D had some bad wires for the horn and headlights when I got it.....spliced in some new wires.....everything works great now. The horn comes in handy when I want to signal my wife to bring out a sandwich and beer when I am working........don't know why she hasn't totally grasped the concept yet.....usually I am the slow learner!

Everything on the tractor is repaired, new ignition, new battery, flushed radiator, trans fluid and screen, oil and filter, gear oil in front axle, gear oil in steering gearbox, clutch adjusted, 4 wd engages, cranks on first turn.

Still see light white smoke from exhaust and crankcase vent, it gets somewhat better after it warms but doesn't go away completely, how much running time should be required to get everything lubed good and the rings seated again?

Wondering if it needs rings or injector pump is out of timing, can valves cause this? Should I go into it or give it time? I pulled a disc harrow some today, had good power

DeepNdirt, if your interested pm me, I wouldnt mind a smaller yanmar myself, everything I know about this tractor is documented here.

try 4 oz of Power Service Diesel Kleen, grey bottle, its not a fix all in a bottle but it may help out

These yanmars cant get out of time according to what i have read. Read this here and on Hoyes site. Valves unadjusted can cause smoking. I would adjust them if you care or are gonna keep it, if you gonna sell it dont worry. There is prolly blowby but no big deal.

I always say oil is cheap overhauls are expensive so if she runs good and has plenty of power just add oil as necessary diesels smoke anyway some more than others not a huge issue imo unless its a head gasket.

I believe it will take a lot more time than you have put on it to get everything working again and get all the crud burnt out of everywhere but thats just a guess.

Can anyone tell me what this is, i see a few bubbles coming out of where the muffler bolts to manifiold, figured it need a new gasket, also see a few air bubbles from the side of the fuel injector where it meets the block, minimal, but there.

Notice in the picture the wet area, not sure if its oil or diesel, feels like oil, now I ran it about 1 hour discing and ran fine, it still smokes until it warms up some but nothing really bad, still see a bit of faint smoke from the crankcase vent at idle, at working rpm its not noticeable.

If the wet area is oil, would this be because of a failed gasket at the manifold/exhaust, guess Im asking would one expect to see oil in this area with failed gaskets or even if the gasket was bad no oil should be here regardless?

Thanks ym2210d.jpg

The only way there can be bubbles at the muffler/manifold connection is if fluid is coming out of the engine and the gasket there is bad letting exhaust out is how I see it. The lower bubbles illustration is not clear enough for me to see it but thats the pump so it is still confusing the bubbles part should be just fuel.

Ok, so regardless of the bad gasket, fluid coming up to that area is not normal or that would be common with a bad gasket at the manifold? Im not worried about the gasket more so then knowing if anything should come out. If an engine is in perfect condition and the manifold gasket fails, will a perfect engine still lose fluid/oil in that area? is there other issues here aside from the the gasket?

I put a white cup up over the exhaust for several minutes and the cup stayed clean, no oil or anything wet blew out.

I sure wouldn't think it would be normal, the only other fluid I can imagine at the bottom of the muffler at that area would be condensation or rain water that is not all gone at the time you are looking at it? A head gasket will certainly cause bubbles if enough coolant gets in the combustion chamber when it is sitting shut off and the exhaust gasket is bad right there. So as once its started the coolant escapes anywhere it can IE bad exhaust gasket at the bottom of the muffler where it can sit and collect.

We are looking @ 400 psi vs 10-13 psi the cooling system is not likely to be pumping coolant out while the engine is running it will be the reverse-combustion into cooling system as a rule.

Does it still bubble after running it awhile? The exhaust manifold shouldn't have any bolts into the cooling system or any other fluid on the engine that would allow fluid to be there is how I see it.

The moral to the story is wait and see is JMHO but rather than get too excited about the engine needing repair run it and get more facts if its a bad head gasket there will be more indications of it than bubbles at the muffler.

its either water or fuel in the exhaust system. Im thinking more along the lines of water in the muffler/manifold??
