YM2210 Questions

My 2210 has no such button. While closing the throttle all the way down does occasionaly shut it off, the majority of the time it will keep on running at what sounds like 30 RPM's. You emphasize "DO NOT use the comp..." any reason why. There's only two ways to shut a diesel off, that I know of. Either stop the fuel entering the cylinder completely or stop the compression process that causes the combustion.

If you have ever seen the head off a Yanmar, a lot of them have marks where the piston hits the valves, for various reasons. In the best of engines they only miss by thousandths of an inch. I certainly don't want to be holding my valves open at full operating speed. If your throttle won't shut it down, you need to adjust the linkage or fix the foot throttle if it has one.

I always throttle down as far as it goes. If it does not shut down by itself then I use the compression release. If the valve hit the piston with the use of the compression release then why is it recommended to get the oil pressure up by opening the release while turning the engine over. This compression release was designed to be opened while the engine is turning over (slowly) so clearance should not be a problem. Now my race car engine is a different story, if that valve is opened for more than 5ー than what it should, I'll have piston damage.

If it hits, it's at least going to be spinning slower. It's your tractor, do it your way.

I am setting up a YM186D I bought recently. The seller told me he used the compression release to shut it down. This doesn't seem to have hurt it; the tractor dyno tested above specification. Not bad for 25 years old!

I tinkered with the throttle linkage but it still won't push the governor's lever in the upward direction needed to finish closing the throttle. I added a 'screen door' type spring, lower right in the first picture. This upward pull allows shutdown when the throttle reaches zero.

And a question: behind the throttle lever going into the injector pump housing, there is a second un-used lever with fittings for a cable like a lawn mower's throttle. Is a 'pull to shutdown' cable missing there? I need a Parts Manual to learn about this tractor and get it set up properly. Does anyone have a used one at reasonable cost?

Some models do have a "fuel shutoff lever", that could be one. Newer F models have an electrical fuel shutoff solenoid.

My ym2000g has a knob to pull out to kill the throttle. Works just like the compression release pull.

I am curious as the to tone of my YM2210. I know a lot of guys have asked about the serious knock of the 2T90 (the Yanmar Hammer) but I am a little concerned with reference to the slight skip when I rev the engine. It's not a serious miss but if it were a Chevy, I would say it's skipping. Does any of you experience the same thing? I also noticed that the tach needle jumps with the sound of the miss. There is no white smoke which usually accompanies a misfire, but being a newbie to the 2 cylinder diesel I thought I would ask some of you experienced guys. Oh, by the way, I have bleed the fuel system in an effort to purge the air but it still runs the same. Any comments will be deeply appreciated.
