THERMOSTAT: Yanmar Tractor Parts
This is the Yanmar tstat looks like, same as all automotive tstats. I doin't believe the YM3110 has one, although the 336, 2010, 2220 and a few others do. A spring just heats up, expands and opens a valve at 160*. located at the base of the upper rad hose.

Sorry, I meant is the temp gauge a liquid filled bulb.... Not thermostat

My temp light is electric. Just wondering if the gauge is electric or mechanical

FWIW. In my book These models use the Automotive type Thermostat and there could be more?.

An article from stant also showing thermostats are controlled by wax, the springs do open and close them but dependent upon the wax being solid or melting. Stant

There is no Thermostat for Yanmar. Used the parts search on the link you provided. So Stant wax is irrelevant unless it was put on aftermarket or a Vn-er etc...

Sorry for the hiatus from the thread- I hadn稚 been around the tractor for a while due to other things that came up. I think I may have a bigger issue than the radiator. I mentioned in the past I replaced the head gasket but decided to take the radiator cap off with the tractor cold and see what it looked like right after starting. As soon as I started the tractor there were bubbles showing in the radiator. I took a video of it to see what it痴 doing.

Shared album - David Underwood - Google Photos

Seems I either didn稚 get the head gasket right, it failed again, or I致e got some surface issues or something going on.

I知 thinking of taking it to Tractors on the Creek to have them look at it. I don稚 think there痴 anyone near Laurens SC that knows these Yanmar gray market tractors.

Have you checked how much pressure is getting pumped into the Radiator. That could be Air pockets in the clogged/plugged up Radiator. If you haven't rent one at Advanced or a big chain auto. If it's going over your Radiator Cap pressure you can more or less guarantee it. Blown gasket, cracked Head etc. If it's staying at a low pressure most likely Clogged Radiator. But then if it your more comfortable paying someone than no doubt go that way...

Might just try putting the cap on and watch the overflow bottle. "If" cap is ok and you get bubbles pretty quick then you know radiator pressure is above cap set pressure.

Some Yanmars do have thermostats, some don't. Yanmar Tractor Parts: Product Search

Even easier. They're correct from my previous post.

Just FYI for your list ...

YM336/336D (with water pump, not thermosiphon) use an 'automotive type' thermostat, open set-point is 160*F
OEM is a temperature 'warning light' (no gauge) with sensor turn-on set-point 230*F
Pressure cap spec is 11-15psi

FWIW 36 years of mowing, loader, and box-blade work in Texas heat with no overheating (all original cooling system*, never had any sort of radiator service, I run a 50/50 'standard antifreeze/coolant' mix with distilled water, flush with water and replace every few years).

*I have replaced the thermostat and pressure cap several times over the years - usually do 'em both when the cap gets funky/rusty.

I've got parts in-hand to remove the electrical sensor/idiot light and install a mechanical gauge; this not due to any cooling issue/concern, just part of a project to replace wiring that the insulation has become dried/cracked and simplify my electrical system (changing warning lights to mechanical water temp and oil pressure gauges, eliminating those electrical circuits).

Thanks for the Info.. So far my list has been correct and it should be without much doubt. And I thought 12-15 psi. was the cap pressure release. I'm spot on your Maint. also. On a YM2000 no gauge. Over 10yrs. in Ga. heat with no problems either!!
