The part from Hoye doesn't have to be machined but the gear housing has to be to so you can use the part. Hoye needs to note that in the future.

its the housing that's too small, the seal fits either way its the speedi sleeve, that once installed, makes the spindle not fit in the housing. All the seals are the same outside dia. just the inside is available in many size options

Would you be so kind as to post the other seal numbers ? If I could get a seal with a s.taller seal dia. It may fit tight enough around the spindle to stop mine from weeping oil.

Kenmac, if the shaft if scored it will require a tighter fitting seal, and there are several that have a smaller ID, hoye might have the sizes described if u can get an idea of what ID you need. You could also try, depending on the severity of the grooves, some RTV on the inside of the oil seal,. then set the shaft down in,let it sit over night, the rtv is flexible, creates and inner seal of sorts and may cure the leak-

Just an option

Some of Yanmar's lower castings are a little tighter than others for some reason. Most of the time the repair collars fit right in without any problem but some castings will have to be opened up a little bit. Most of the time it amounts to just cleaning up the rough casting with a die grinder. It does not have to go to a machine shop or be super precise because nothing actually fits in that hole. It just has to be made big enough to allow the collar to pass through. I will add some notes to the product's description on our website.

No grooves. It just appears the seal isn't tight enough around the spindle ? where it goes into the gear case housing. I may just add something to swell the seal a little

Gear housings are at the machine shop. He checked the sleeve and the housing bore and said the hole would have to be bored out 1/8th overall or 1/16th all the way around. Supposed to get them back on Saturday.

I got lucky as my neighbor has a shop in his barn, can machine anything, made me a tool to slide the sleeve on and cleaned the opening to fit then new sleeve, probably should have done both side but one side only req'd a seal, if u have a chance snap a pic of the housing before it goes back together
