IMHO it will get worse price wise unless the economy takes a big dump.If fuel prices continue to rise folks will dump PU trucks for better fuel mileage cars.
Maybe part of the plan to get everyone into an EV?

The used vehicle bubble will burst just as soon as the tens of thousands of new vehicles sitting in fields all over the country get their chips installed and are sent to dealers.

Long ago the Forrest Service had Power Wagons. Two door - six cylinder. Used for lighting strike fires - rapid deployment - fire suppression. Thats where I learned to love those old vehicles. 400 gallon water tank and 36" hydraulically controlled single disk out back. Off we would go - cross country - disking and hosing small start ups. Summers between my JR - SR year in high school.

A lighting bolt would hit a steel T-post barbed wire fence. Could start a fire with a half mile front.

I was young - I was fearless - the days were long - the adrenaline flowed like a mighty river. Four of us young fellows on each power wagon. Driver - navigator - fire suppression - hydraulic disk operator.
Just out of curiosity what vintage were those trucks? The old ‘50’s vintage or were they a bit newer?
Maybe part of the plan to get everyone into an EV?
I think there’s a lot of truth to that.

My '96 Ford F250 has only 112K miles and is running great. I did some needed maintenance - full tune up, fixing the AC, etc. The problem is I just paid the registration at $295 plus $70 to smog it! I only drive it 1500 miles a year but they don't take that into account. The government wanted to buy it for $1000 to get it off the road! It is definitely a keeper.

Thee and me. My old '97 Chevy half-ton is in fact 'getting old'. Friends and family are constantly telling me "buy yourself a new or newer truck".

If I priced my used Chevy the way the fool company Banner Ford is pricing that 3/4 ton, I'd be asking more than the $15K that I paid when new. Although it only has 135K on the clock, tax value is only $684! I'm only driving about 2K per year on it though. Nah - my old truck is just fine for my limited needs. Banner can keep their pile of 'gold' right there on their lot and look at it every payday as far as I'm concerned. The day come come, soon I hope, that people will come to their senses.
Still love my 99 F250 7.3 SD super cab. 156,000 miles. I bought used 16 years ago and have worked out all the little bugs. The only thing I don't like about it is the older ones have a much more limited payload than the newer ones. It even says in the manual do not put a camper on this truck. The 7.3 is almost wasted with an 1800 pound payload. I'm just careful about my tow weights. No living quarters horse trailer with this truck. Right now the KBB is going up!

Yep... the goal is "Retirement" of older vehicles...

Gave my nephew same vintage F150 4wd with 5spd and 6 cylinder... one owner used for fishing... not a scratch in the bed or anywhere else..
He sold it for 6500 when he went off to school.

With the extended cab and long bed it was the best riding truck I have ever driven...

My nephew sent me an email this AM telling me that his VW dealer contacted him about 'selling' his 2015 VW GTI-S, 3 years after he purchased it and with 35k more miles, and is offering $2500 more than what he paid for it in trade!

Mine also has an extended cab, 8' bed and huge engine but very reliable. I finally replaced the tires that were on it when I bought it. They were 15 years old! Gas is so high in CA, cost me $110 to fill it up last time. I added shocks in the back to improve towing.

It's like we read prices are going up and a portion of the population say to themselves "I had better go out and buy something today.....and just to make sure I get a good deal I will spend a lot of money on what ever I decide to buy. In fact I will pay more than what the manufacturer says its worth".....gotta be something in the water that we are making the kool aid

He now has a Toyota pickup... but he misses the F150 at times and it had seatbelts for 6

I wouldnt worry Oosik, its all going to come crashing down soon.
Once interest rates go up later this year and next year, buying will slow way down and the covid excuses end, itll be a buyers market again.

Boys if you want a chuckle go price out that fancy new electric F150 Lightning. The top end model can break $95,000 and for that you get something that will go 250 miles, if it's above freezing, and then will need to sit on a charger for 8-10 hours before you do it all over again!
Somehow that's gonna save the earth.

The real reason for the lunacy is that NONE of these inflated prices are actual purchases by the people. ....They are actually paying payments to a lending party financing the vehicle at low interest rates born by the working, conservative base of the economy. .....Let interest rates return to REAL levels and the price gouging insanity will stop dead in its tracks!

My Silverado crew cab is 10 years old, and it's been totally reliable. I'm about to upgrade its head unit, and that takes some significant shenanigans under the dash. Still, it's a user-maintained truck.

While I'm a little concerned with the price of new trucks, I'm more concerned with their long term maintainability. If I bought a new truck, I could change the oil and maybe even replace the battery myself. But everything else is so electronically integrated that any change or glitch in it would mean a trip to the dealer, and -- after the warranty is gone -- a simply ridiculous bill.

I think I need a truck like the old Power Wagons, where I can hose off the mud, then open the door and hose off the floor. Not much in the way of creature comforts, but zero trips to the dealer. It'd be even better if it were Diesel powered.

Mom's friend on the Bay Bridge stopped but the truck behind didn't stop fast enough.

Went out car shopping for Lexus to replace but no inventory...

Ended up paying straight 10% over sticker to drive new car home last night... she wrote a check and ready to do battle with insurance companies...

The 10% is market adjustment... told her she could save some if willing to wait 3 weeks... she is Trauma RN and just wanted this over...

If by “plan” you mean the invisible hand of the free market, then sure.

I have a 1987 Ford F-150 with 285,000 miles and a 2006 Saturn Bue with 350,000 miles on it and wouldn’t trade either.

How do you handle inspection and smog checks?

My 85 Chevrolet Service Van took a lot of time for me to outfit but I sweat out each emission test and several times through the years it has not passed by the smallest of margins.

I use it for business so I swap out the CAT and no problem on retest...

At my smog station they have a '96 cutoff for a fairly easy smog. Apparently, before '96 is much more difficult. That's the problem with old vehicles. Even my '07 Honda is just plug and play - 5 minutes. I used to have a '72 Datsun with a better carb and sweat every smog. You have to have a place that will ignore non-standard equipment.

I've got two year model 1976 cars I don't even try to pass... BMW 2002 and Triumph Spitfire.

Both run and drive well... the 2002 BMW with stick us a lot of fun to drive but both are just over limit.

On the Triumph to get it to pass it runs horrible...

A lot of us old car fans got caught up when state stopped the rolling exemption at year model 1975.
