I haven't captured him for the replacement program, I'll put out a trap cage tonight. Any suggestion from an experienced trapper?

caught 2 in my live trap with cat food. course they were getting into the cat food which is why we bated with it.

The Havahart trap we borrowed recently from the city to catch a stray cat, had a possum in it when the animal control truck stopped here. The driver removed the possum and baited the trap with cat food. Of course, the cat food didn't catch the cat; had to use a sardine and tuna for that, but apparently it had caught the possum.

Not long after my brother-in-law and his wife moved to the country, he did exactly as the cartoons show. He heard a noise at night and it was a cat fighting a possoum on his wooden deck or porch where he was feeding their cat, so he went out with his 20 gauge shotgun and shot the possum on the porch. Of course, he blew a big hole in the porch in the process.

I have a suggestion. Put lots of cardboard under the live trap 'cause when you catch it it's going to crap and pee everywhere. I don't know how to be pollitically correct.

Somewhere on the Internet, I read that you should put newspaper in the bottom of the Havahart trap to catch feral cats because they will not want to walk on the wire bottom of the trap. Since I was setting the trap where I knew that wind would make newspaper inappropriate, I cut a piece of cardboard to fit the bottom of the trap. The cat I was after was caught just before dark one evening, so we waited until the next morning to call animal control to come get it. And the next morning, it appeared that the cat had a severe case of diarrhea during the night.
