Bay Area Air Quality Management District or BAQMD has jurisdiction and also collects the yearly fee for burning through a 100 gallons of diesel annually.

One of the old engineers asked my why I let it bug me... he said all the new regs is what keeps us working...

Told him I just don't like to see waste... no matter who is footing the bill.

Sad.... doubly so, as a lot of N. America follows Ca policy some time later....

True enough, it's not just the EPA that likes these make-work programs.....

We are installing two new 4 MW generators at a major NYC hospital. The old ones are 60 years old. I can't imagine the government mandating that they can't be run in 20 years because they don't meet emissions. But you never know with that city government.

I thought standby gensets didnt have to meet tier 4, us that true?

It has not quite come to that...

What happened is we are now required to pay for a permit to operate each year... due to the age/emission output testing and maintenance operations is limited and subject to inspection.

Should we need/decide to be replace we must install a more up to date unit AND our genset may not be installed anywhere in the district as it has been deemed non-compliant...

Gas Steam Boilers are already on their radar too...

ive used the multiquip ultra quiet trailer mounted units in the past. The size of a small semi, and you can hardly tell its running. We used them to power movie sets.... years ago

Multiquip has very good generators... super quiet and efficient and most are trailer mounted with extended run tanks.

Rented them before for Health Fairs and similar.

I saw some Multiquips running at a Fair last weekend. There's another brand I've seen too, in the same application, name escapes me at the moment - but I do recall they too were originally develloped for movie sets - makes sense.

Used at these Fair sites, the ones I've seen likely weren't even half-loaded to capacity - but still, they are impressively quiet - most people wouldn't even suspect that they are diesel driven.

One more item for the What to Do with Lottery Winnings list.....
