I can’t speak for that particular unit but most units that style require the housing in place and unmodified for cooling. In many cases they can’t even be run with an access cover open without affecting airflow and potentially causing damage. This is especially true of the low dB units.

Check the operator manual before you run without the covers in place.

I'll second what CM posted..... some of those China diesels have poor access to critical things like compression release..... It's a bit more work, but I'd probably cut out access panels as needed, and mount them on hinges so you can restore closed function quickly.

For service/testing, I might run w/o the cover, but probably at no more than 20% of rated output, in consideration of thermal issues.

I don't think I would have a cooling issue , I did a smoke test before I installed it to see where the exhaust fan should go in relation to the generator and the only place it took in air was where the air cleaner is I couldn't find where it was going out. There are very few vents on it except where the mufflers are. Daytime highs are about 90 deg. here all the time. The fan I have cooling the room is about 2200 cu. ft. 24" through the wall unit about a foot from the side of the gen.

Let us know how things go hr3...... lots of people are interested in the smaller diesels, so let us know what loads you are supporting with it, and fuel consumption if you track it.

Well got it fixed again, it was a fuel issue the injector this time. I finely found some STP injector cleaner and I hope that will help in the future. As for loads I'm running 2.5 hp AC unit and a 1.5 hp. AC unit along with a 2 hp. well pump. Not all come on at the same time so it's doing ok, not tripped breaker yet...??? As for fuel it will run about 14 hr. on 2 gal...

Thanks for the data. Seems like decent #'s, given your loads.

Over time, I've come to appreciate judicious use of a good quality injector cleaner. Diesel, and gas.

I had of those silent diesels several years ago and it was a PIMA!!
Cam bearing failed and I had to strip the unit down completely.
To answer your question yes you can remove the cabinet or open the doors with no cooling issues.
After I repaired mine I load tested it at 100% load recording exhaust temps, load and rpm to find the timing sweet spot.
I then opened engine up after running to check the new cam & bearing.
Since then I sold the Chinese gens and obtained Genuine Yanmar diesels which I’ve done considerable testing with to determine fuel consumption at various loads.
Currently I have a L70 with extended sump, L90 which is powering my pressure washer and an L100 which belt drives a 28 volt 450 amp Niehoff alternator as my backup during a power outage to keep my off grid batteries charged.

A silent generator in which one is a regular one inside an insulated can should not be confused with a Cummins Onan Quiet Diesel. It's a 2x3 Foot unit that goes in an RV or Commercial vehicle, less fuel tank or battery, for around 9 thousand bucks, for 7.5 K, Inverter Style.
