Just wanted to post a pic of our finished setup and recommend used concrete railroad ties for base on $35 each.
You can see the Deep Sea 7320 Controller through the glass.

Good you were able to narrow it down. Most ball valves are fine for suction use but do not use a gate valve... almost all will leak under vacuum. The very best thing for sealing threads is the Teflon PTFE paste from Locktite. It will never leak but it’s like neverseez, it gets everywhere.

The diameter of the drop tube won’t have any bearing on losing prime however a larger tube will have a larger volume of air to be purged when you do prime it.

Put grease or oil on all filter gaskets and orings - oil, fuel, coolant. I can’t remember the last time I had a stuck filter on my own equipment... and always tighten to the spec shown on the filter, no less.

Thanks. I have been playing with siphons since I was a baby it seems. The larger the tube, the easier it seems to be to loose your prime. Just easier for it to flow out. I thought the bigger tube would be good to possibly transfer larger particles to the filter, rather then getting stuck in the inlet.

Also curious if "O' Ring grease or lube is a real thing. If you have oil going by your 'O" Rings whats the purpose of some special grease?

ROY. Are the RR ties reinforced. I know my fuel supplier insists tanks sit on concrete "something" but it has to be reinforced. Kind of dumb if you ask me. Any concrete is better than sitting in the dirt!

railroad ties are rated to carry 60,000 pounds, 8000psi concrete with prestressed rebar with 3/4" threaded inserts to hold track plates, they are tough as cut nails. We wanted air under the unit and high enough so mowed grass doesn't accumulate, use round up and dragnet to keep grass and bugs out. The new building codes are very picky in hurricane zones we had to have a Fl certified engineer use a rather complicated wind formula, it passes out to 165 mph broadside.

The disconnect box has room to add 6 double breakers for future additions for Gen power, has battery minder on utility power and alternator for battery charging when running, runs automatic cycles, keeps track of engine hours it will remind you to change oil, air cleaner, flush radiator via date or hours.

It will keep running total Kw used and if we had added current transformers it would have monitor and log Utility power usage. It monitors fuel usage and if equipped will run auto refill pumps, issue low fuel alarms and monitor a Bund tank for leaks. You plug in Ethernet and run from anywhere, or add a modem and use txt messages

With a diesel gen, I suspect non-reinforced concrete (ie. patio stone) may turn to dust eventually.

I get that yard items can end up being missiles, but I'm curious Roy as to what wind rating structures (houses) have to meet local to you - same #, or higher ?

Florida redid the zone ratings and all structures must meet, from road signs, to doors and windows. Miami is now up to 185 mph. I have family friend in Miami making a living redoing doors and windows in business to meet the new standards

There are special grease types for orings but they are typically only used with dynamic orings that operate in air or gasses. If the oring is immersed in fluid, the fluid typically provides the lubrication.

Filter orings are static and don’t actually require lubrication. The grease or oil is just a trick to prevent sticking when it comes time to remove them.

That makes perfect sense.

Loosing any humour over this fuel issue. How complicated can a simple fuel system be? Lost prime again after twelve hours, at about freezing temps..

A friend has offered a new Onan pump which he claims was an issue some time ago. I think I will take him up on that offer. I am out of any other ideas or options.

NPT's leak. I had trouble getting my pressure washer to seal, so I took all the fittings off cleaned them and used number 1 hardening permetex and let sit for a day, then no more leaks. I had tried all the normal ptfe tape, can etc. Todays foreign pipe threads are crap. I routinely run my own tap and dies on them to clean them, but some are cut too deep or not deep enough. Get rid of that valve at the top of the tank
